Alan Cumming Thinks He Would Make a Great Traitor

Ever since “The Traitors” first appeared on television screens in the U.S. back in 2023, Scottish actor and host Alan Cumming has been one of the most recognizable figures in popular culture. His iconic outfits and camp behavior are a major factor in what makes the show work and gives it a distinct identity.

While viewers are accustomed to seeing him work as the presenter of the reality hit series, Cumming also thinks that if he were ever to take part in the series himself, he would make a great Traitor.

Alan Cumming Explains Why He Would Be a Good Traitor

Cumming was speaking to CBS Mornings ahead of the season 4 premiere of “The Traitors” and was asked by the host, “how do you think you would do playing this game?”

He went on to explain that he believes he would make a good Traitor as he would be able to find out information from other players, a skill that he has put to use in the real world. Of course, he also understands that thinking about your strategy theoretically and putting it into practice are two very different things.

“I’ve thought about that a lot,” Cumming revealed. “Everyone can think they would be a certain way, but there’s sort of a psychological torture that goes on that people are… they go mad.”

Cumming continued, “It’s because they’re in this sort of bubble and they don’t have the reason. And their phones are really kept away from them.”

Calling the show “Lord of the Flies with Botox,” he went on to say that “I’m quite good at sussing people out.”

“And people really tell me their secrets,” Cumming elaborated. “Like, people just, like, wherever I go, you know, I’m standing in the line or something at the supermarket and people just go, well, ‘You know my husband left me.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh really?'” People want to talk to me about their illnesses all the time. So I think I would be able to find out a lot just because of my alluring, charming ways.

Alan Cumming Opens Up on His Dog Finding Fame on the Show

When discussing how famous his dog Lala has become, Cumming spoke about how often the public recognize her while out on walks. He said, “People come up to me and say, ‘Is that Lala from The Traitors?’ It’s just hilarious.”

“All this happened to her,” he said. “She’s on merch and everything. I mean it’s hilarious because she’s just, you know, this little mutt from Costa Rica who lucked out, I suppose.”

However, he did make a surprising revelation that Lala doesn’t bark and so it isn’t actually her that viewers hear in the show. “Her bark has to be dubbed in,” Cumming divulged. “She never makes a sound. There’s some dog somewhere it has got a job dubbing Lala or some dog in a sound library. It’s so crazy.”
