New details are emerging about the devastating moment TLC Star Chuck Potthast was found unresponsive inside his Florida home. On Friday, December 12, TMZ obtained audio from the 911 call placed by Chuck’s son, who told the dispatcher he had discovered his father bleeding in the bathtub and feared he was already gone.
In the recording, his son said Chuck was “lying in the bathtub and bleeding from the chest,” adding that he had no idea what had happened. When asked whether Chuck was awake, he replied that he didn’t think his dad “even looks alive.”
The dispatcher instructed him to try turning Chuck onto his side. His son explained that Chuck, 64, was face down in the bathtub. Here is the heartbreaking 911 clip.
Family Announced His Death With Emotional Tributes
News of Chuck’s death was first shared publicly last month by his daughter Elizabeth Castravet, who said their family was “devastated” by the loss.
His daughter Rebekah Lichtwerch also paid tribute with an emotional message, writing that her world had been “distorted into a place I don’t understand.”
Chuck Potthast Had Openly Discussed Ongoing Health Issues
In the months before his death, Chuck had been candid about ongoing health struggles.
In September, he shared on social media that he underwent an eight-hour surgery to repair a hernia and a collapsed stomach. It remains unclear whether those medical issues contributed to his passing.
Chuck had also revealed in 2022 that he was battling a glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He later said he was officially cancer-free.
Andrei Castravet Pushes Back on Speculation
Chuck’s son-in-law, “90 Day Fiancé” star Andrei Castravet, later spoke publicly and addressed speculation surrounding the cause of his death.
In a somber video shared November 25, Andrei paid tribute to the man who “meant a lot to our family,” describing the past several weeks as “incredibly, incredibly tough for us.”
He pushed back against reports claiming Chuck died from cancer, calling them “rumors and clickbait,” and “lies.”
Andrei said the family plans to share more details when they are ready. He emphasized that it will be done “in a respectful way” as they continue to grieve.
He also reflected on Chuck’s time on reality television, saying he truly enjoyed the experience. “He genuinely loved filming,” Andrei said, adding that their most meaningful moments were not the explosive scenes viewers saw on TLC.
