British actor Anthony Head, known to millions for his roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” has died at the age of 72.
His daughters, actresses Emily Head and Daisy Head, confirmed in a joint statement to the Irish News that he passed away “peacefully of complications due to pneumonia.”
Head’s Daughters Released the Sad Statement
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father, Anthony Head,” the statement began.
The sisters described their father as someone who deeply loved his craft and felt fortunate throughout his decades-long career in television, film, and theatre.
They added, “We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades.”
Emily and Daisy also reflected on the personal loss, saying their “grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind,” but noted that his “legacy will live on” through his extensive body of work.
“How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us,” they added.
The family requested privacy during this difficult time.
Head Rose to Fame for His Role in Buffy
Head rose to international fame playing Rupert Giles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” a role that made him a fan favorite during the show’s original run and continues to be celebrated by audiences today.
More recently, he introduced himself to a new generation of viewers through the hit Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso,” where he played Rupert Mannion, a wealthy and complex football club owner.
His performance earned praise for bringing both charm and unpredictability to the role.
Throughout his career, Head appeared in a wide range of film and television projects, including “The Iron Lady,” “Persuasion,” “The Inbetweeners,” and “Manchild,” showcasing his versatility across drama and comedy.

Head’s death comes just six months after the passing of his partner, Sarah Fisher, who died at the age of 61.
The couple shared two daughters, Emily and Daisy, both of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps into acting.
