Candace Cameron Bure Can’t Wait to Become a ‘Fun Grandma’ With Two Grandchildren On the Way

Fans of ’90s television first encountered Candace Cameron Bure as DJ Tanner on “Full House.”

Viewers have watched her grow up onscreen, and now the former Hallmark Channel star (who’s now chief creative officer at Great American Family) is preparing to welcome not one but two grandchildren.

Not only is her daughter, Natasha Bure, expecting her first child, her son Leve Bure’s wife, Elliott, is also pregnant with their first.

“I’ve been waiting for this for so long,” Cameron Bure told Swoon.

“It’s so exciting and beautiful to watch your children become parents, and I have so much love inside of me that I cannot wait just to express when the grandkids come. It’s like … I just want to be a fun grandma,” she declared.

“I want them to be over all the time,” she added. “I want to eat lots of ice cream together and go to the park and just do all the fun things that grandparents get to do. I had my turn parenting, and that’s when you do all the hard stuff, and grandparenting just feels like we get the benefits of all the fun things.”

How She Learned the News

During that Swoon interview, she also revealed how she and her husband, former NHL star Valeri Bure, first learned they were going to be grandparents.

“There is a video online of when our daughter, Natasha, and her husband, Bradley, shared the news with us, and we were on winter vacation together,” she recalled.

“And they just had a little onesie and booties that were hanging out on a chair in their room. So they were like, ‘Oh, come to our room. We want to show you something.’ And as soon as I saw the little baby onesie, I knew what it meant and couldn’t believe it. Absolutely freaked out, so excited.”

According to Cameron Bure, Lev and Elliott dropped the news in a “very casual conversation,” revealing, “They threw it in there just to see if we’d pick up on it. It was like, ‘Well, Elliott can’t have a glass of wine because she’s pregnant, but we’ll be doing this and that and that.’ And it was like, ‘Wait, what? What did you just say?’”

Knowing Her Role

The Great American Family star shared similar thoughts in a recent interview with Us Weekly

“I want to be a fun grandma,” she said. “I just, I want to have so much fun with them.”

That said, she also said that she and her husband planned to respectful of their childrens’ wishes, and didn’t want to overstep any parental boundaries when it came to their new role as first-time grandparents.

“I wanna do whatever my kids want me to do. You know, like, everyone has different parenting styles, and however my children choose to parent, I will follow their rules,” she said. “I already had my chance to parent, I got to do that and so this is all about them and I just can’t wait to be a part of it.”
