Jodie Sweetin Reveals Important Lesson She’s Learned from 4 Marriages

Jodie Sweetin is sharing the relationship lesson that changed her approach to marriage.

The “Full House” alum, 44, recently opened up about her marriage to husband Mescal Wasilewski and explained why having their own space has become an important part of their relationship.

During an August appearance on the “Good Guys Podcast,” hosted by Josh Peck and Ben Soffer, Sweetin was asked about married couples choosing to live in separate homes.

“I love it,” Sweetin revealed.

The actress, who married Wasilewski in 2022, explained that their relationship already allows plenty of room for each of them to maintain their own lives and interests.

She said she and Wasilewski “are both very, like, independent people.”

“He goes and does his thing. He works in treatment as a clinical director, and you know, I’ll go travel and do something,” Sweetin said.

For Sweetin, embracing that independence appears to be part of a broader shift in how she approaches relationships after experiences earlier in her life.

Sweetin and Wasilewski aren’t currently living separately, but the actress revealed that the couple has imagined a future setup that would give them each a space of their own.

The former child star said they hope “to own property somewhere” with “a few little like tiny homes” on it.

“He gets his tiny home. I get my tiny home, and then there’s like the middle one where it’s like, ‘Okay, it’s got a kitchen, and like a living room and whatever,” Sweetin explained.

She also said she believes “that more time apart” can sometimes strengthen a relationship by cutting down on minor everyday frustrations and making couples more intentional about the time they spend together.

Sweetin connected that perspective to what she has learned through her previous marriages.

“I’ve been married four times. So after a few, I think you just kind of go, ‘Maybe I should have some space on my own,’” she said.

The couple has found other practical ways to make their home life work for both of them.

Sweetin said she and Wasilewski sleep on mattresses “pushed up against each other” because her husband is a light sleeper. They also use “separate duvets,” which means neither has to fight “over the blanket.”

Jodie Sweetin Reveals What Past Relationships Have Taught Her

Sweetin has also been candid about how her previous relationships helped shape the person and partner she is today.

During a June appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast, the actress reflected on her divorces from Shaun Holguin, Cody Herpin and Morty Coyle. Sweetin shares daughter Zoie with Herpin and daughter Beatrix with Coyle.

Looking back, Sweetin acknowledged that she eventually had to examine her own role in the relationships that weren’t working.

“There’s something obviously that I am bringing to things or that I am not honoring for myself before I get into these relationships,” Sweetin said.

Sweetin also reflected on how her desire to feel loved affected some of the choices she made earlier in life.

“Just again, ‘Will you love me?’ I’m not going to ask any questions about anything, you know, important or that I should probably know before we do this … ‘Please love a red flag because also I have red flags. So, I’m not going to judge you for yours. In fact, I’m just going to paint them green or take them down. They’re not even there.’ And I did that a lot,” she said.
