Carrie Underwood became a household name overnight after winning “American Idol” season 4. The singer has found that leaning on her faith keeps her grounded in an industry that can be so self-serving.
Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Fame: ‘You Can Lose Your Roots Real Fast’
In an April 2026 interview with Fox News Digital, Underwood spoke about the pitfalls of fame.
“Faith is the thing that can keep you grounded,” she shared. “When you’re in the entertainment industry, there’s a lot of things that, and I’ve said this before, it’s just not real life. You can get caught up in a lot.”
Underwood continued, “You’re kind of in a self-serving business. Everybody around you is there to make sure you’re good, and you’re happy, and you have everything you need, and I feel like you can start to … you can lose your roots real fast, you know.”
“So I think faith is the only way to keep you grounded,” the singer added.
The “American Idol” judge also shared how she sometimes will “see glimpses” of herself in the show’s contestants, “whether it’s somebody being super nervous or sometimes stylistically, just navigating this.”
“This is weird, let’s be honest,” Underwood noted. “Being up on stage, singing in front of a whole bunch of people on TV, it’s not your everyday kind of thing.”
She added, “So everybody’s figuring out how to navigate all of it. But I’m just glad that we get to be a part of somebody’s journey, lots of people’s journeys.”
Underwood also gave her perspective on the “American Idol” songs of faith night. “It was just joyful, you know, it was happy,” she shared.
The singer added, “It was people up there sharing their heart, and whatever that was to them, whether it was some song that, you know, touched them that was inspirational to them or whether it was something that they got to praise the Lord with. It was just a joyful, happy, lovely night.”
Underwood Enjoys Down-to-Earth Hobbies & Chores
When she’s not attending glamorous events, singing on tour, or serving as a judge on “American Idol,” Underwood enjoys some very down-to-earth hobbies.
During a February 2026 interview with “On the Red Carpet,” Underwood shared her love of “granny” hobbies and mundane household chores.
“I have granny hobbies. I love to crochet. I love to do a little birdwatching and I have sourdough, and I make my own kombucha, and I love to grow hot peppers and make my own fermented hot sauce,” she explained.
The singer continued, “Everything is very compartmentalized and this entertainment world that we live in is not reality.”
Underwood added, “Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking — and that’s a world I love.”
