Carrie Underwood Opens Up About the ‘Frustrating’ Yet ‘Rewarding’ Reality of Farm Life

Carrie Underwood may shine in the spotlight, but she values the quieter (and messier!) moments at home on her family farm in Tennessee. The “American Idol” judge shared some of the ups and downs of farm life, admitting it can be “frustrating” and “rewarding” — and she wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Carrie Underwood Shares the Best and Worst Parts of Farm Life

The farm is a far cry from the glamorous aspects of Underwood’s life, but she loves the downtime at home.

During an April 27 interview with Us Weekly following the “American Idol” Taylor Swift night episode, Underwood spoke about how involved she is with her farm.

“My goal is to just do as much as I can myself,” she explained. “I love it. It’s a challenge, and it’s frustrating, and it’s exciting, and it’s rewarding, and just all the things.”

As for something that fans might find surprising about her life on the farm, the country star shared that it’s the “polar opposite” of her being on stage or serving as a judge on “Idol.”

“I go home, and I had to have talks with my family at one point, because I was like, ‘OK, when I’m away, I’m like, Cinderella at the ball.’ I’m a princess, and it’s great,” she noted. “And then I come home, and I’m like, covered in dirt. I’m covered in poop. It’s just the polar opposite.”

She added, “I’m like, cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Underwood recently told Fox News Digital she’s confident she could live off the grid if necessary.

“I think if I had to, I could be self-sustained at home,” she explained. “I love growing things. If I had all the time in the world, I would … not really need to go to the grocery store for too much.”

The singer added, “But it’s a lot of fun. You know, I love our chickens. We have cows, we have sheep, we have donkeys. We have horses. I have my garden, and it’s a great way to connect with the earth. That’s my contribution to the family.”

Underwood Welcomed 2 New Babies to the Farm

On March 16, the “American Idol” judge took to Instagram to share her exciting adoption news.

“Timeline cleanse … We adopted these 2 little orphan lambs,” Underwood wrote in the caption.

She continued, “We named them Magnolia (Maggie) and Murray. These mornings are so precious. It took a few days for them to willingly take the bottle … I’m still working on him.”

“Trying to be a good mama to these babies! ❤️🐑🐑” the singer added.

Since then, she’s been regularly posting little updates, photos, and video of her newest additions on the farm.

Fans love getting this peek at Underwood’s life away from the stage. “So cute! You are a good mama to them,” one fan wrote on the singer’s adoption post.

Another fan joked, “Carrie said ‘morning routine’ and casually added livestock management.”
