Carrie Underwood won over the judges each week on “American Idol” season 4 and went on to win the competition. The “Idol” alum shared a journal entry from her most well-known performance on the show, recalling that one of now AGT judge Simon Cowell’s comments was a “total shocker.”
Carrie Underwood Shares Surprising Simon Cowell Prediction That Came True
On January 18, the “American Idol” Instagram account shared a compilation video of Underwood discussing her time on the show as a contestant.
The clips are from a series of “Idol to Icon” videos Underwood released in early 2025, in which she would reflect on her “American Idol” performances.
“Carrie has always been a star student. 👩🎓 #americanidol kicks off MONDAY Jan. 26!” the caption noted.
One of the clips showed Underwood revisiting when she sang “Alone” by Heart on “American Idol.”
She earned rave reviews from judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, with Cowell making a “shocker” of a prediction.
“I, despite my mile-high hair, did a wonderful job tonight,” Carrie read from her journal entry.
She continued, “All the judges praised me. Simon told me that I was not just the girl to beat, but the person to beat.”
“He then went on to make a prediction that I would not only win the ‘AI’ competition, but I would sell more albums than any other ‘American Idol’ [winner] has,” Underwood read. “I was really surprised.”
She wrote in her journal at the time, “I mean, I know that Simon loves me, but that was a total shocker!”
In another clip, Underwood shared a diary entry about her “Idol” experience.
“I just have to keep in mind that it will all be worth it and the life I’ve started will be great,” she wrote at the time. “Most importantly, I have to remember that this has all been my choice and it’s something I’ve wanted ever since I was a little girl.”
Underwood added, “I know I have some great things ahead of me. Right now I’m just trying to live in the moment and appreciate it all. I never dreamed that all of this would happen to me. I love it.”
