Former ‘American Idol’ Judge Wants Paula Abdul for TV Show

Former “American Idol” judge, Randy Jackson, is now the band leader for “Celebrity Name That Tune,” and he wants a fellow music icon to compete on the show.

In an interview with “Eyewitness News WTVO WQRF,” Jackson was asked which of the original “American Idol” group would win “Celebrity Name That Tune.”

“Honestly, Paula [Abdul],” he answered, “Paula remembers every song … her memory is even better than mine.

Jackson continued, “And Ryan [Seacrest] is on the radio, so that’s saying a lot. But she’s got it down. Paula, she should come on. Call her, she should come on next season.”

Abdul & Jackson Reunited in 2022 for ‘American Idol’ Special

Abdul served as a judge on “American Idol” from 2002 to 2009, with Jackson leaving in 2013. The two had a nostalgic reunion in May 2022 on the show for the reunion special that featured past contestants.

The episode started with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan playfully complaining that there were two people in their seats.

“The lady said she was here first and the guy said something about a dog,” Bryan told Ryan Seacrest. Ryan peered at the judge’s panel and said, “It’s Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. It all makes sense now!”

As the camera panned to Abdul and Jackson, the audience went wild. “I’m most proud, most humbled by having an experience of a lifetime, and being able to see it continue to grow and do well,” the “Straight Up” singer said of being an OG of “Idol.”

She continued, “I’m crying seeing all the contestants who are like my babies. It’s beautiful.”

Jackson shared, “You see all this talent out here. You see Carrie [Underwood], you see Kelly [Clarkson], Ruban [Studdard] — all these great talents. We did something right.”

‘Idol’ Fans Miss the Original Three Judges

After leaving “American Idol” 16 years ago, Abdul still has fond memories of her time as a judge. On June 12, she posted a throwback pic on Instagram of her with Jackson, Seacrest, and Simon Cowell.

“It’s so hard for me to believe it’s been 23 years since ‘American Idol’ hit our screens. This show broke records, topped ratings and launched careers that continue to shape the music industry,” she wrote.

Abdul continued, “I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of something so special from the very beginning. Watching raw talent walk through those audition doors and grow into superstars was nothing short of magical. I’ll cherish it all forever.”

A fan replied, “It was the best when you and Simon sparred. Loved it then!! You are missed.” Another wrote, “This was its golden area with the 4 of you. Feels like only a few years ago, I can’t believe it.”

Jackson responded, “Dream team.”
