Ruben Studdard Reflects on ‘The Biggest Loser’ & His Next Music Chapter

American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard is giving fans insight into his experience on “The Biggest Loser,” and whether he’s checked out Netflix’s new docuseries “Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser.”

Ruben’s Thoughts on New Netflix Docuseries

While the soulful singer was the winner of season 2 of “American Idol,” he also appeared on Season 15 of “The Biggest Loser” in 2013. While talking with Parade, Studdard was asked if he’s seen the three-episode docuseries exploring the controversial weight-loss show.

“I have not seen the docuseries, and I don’t know when I have time to sit down and watch it,” Studdard said. “Nobody has actually even called and asked me about it, so I don’t really have any thoughts about it right now. We’ll see what I think when I watch it.”

While the docuseries has focused on the controversial parts of the reality show, Studdard said his “overall experience was extremely positive,” especially with trainer Dolvett Quince, with whom he stays in touch today, and a few of the castmates.

Studdard added, “We still talk to this day, and not just about training stuff. Like, we talk. We built a relationship on that show, and I’m actually glad for that reason that I was able to be a part of that. For me, I didn’t have anything that I felt was a negative experience. I enjoyed myself. Was it difficult? Absolutely. Was it tough? Yes. But, as far as the relationships that I built in and around the people that were on with me? It was great.”

His Own ‘Biggest Loser’ Controversy

During his time on “The Biggest Loser,” the “Idol” winner was eliminated twice. He was first eliminated during week 4 of the competition after only losing five pounds at the weigh-in.

However, it was later determined that Jillian Michaels gave her team caffeine pills, so the weigh-ins for week 4 were overturned.

Because those results were overturned, Ruben Studdard was able to return to the competition. He was then eliminated during week 8 of the competition after losing just 2 pounds at weigh-in.

New Ruben Studdard Album

While talking with Parade, Studdard also hinted that a new album is in the works. He said he is hopeful that his new acoustic cover album will be out early next year.

Studdard told Parade, “I’ve been in the studio for the last couple of months working [on a] ‘kind of my ode to Billy Joel‘ kind of album. So it’s kind of a piano project.”
