John Travolta has established himself over a long career as one of the most successful actors of the last 30 years. Having begun his career in the sitcom “Welcome Back, Kotter” during the 1970s, Travolta then moved into leading roles in the likes of “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever.”
He then transitioned to more serious roles in the 1990s following his critically acclaimed performance in “Pulp Fiction” and has more recently had several action-oriented appearances in movies and television. His ability to adapt and stay relevant have allowed Travolta to have a long career in the entertainment business and indulge in his passion for flying, with the actor also being a trained pilot.

John Travolta’s Private Airport & Luxury House
Travolta is well known for his love of flying and is a certified pilot who can take charge of a number of different aircraft. His unique Florida home, though, affords him the ability to take off and land aircraft directly outside where he lives with his daughter and son.
Located just northeast of Ocala, Florida, the $10 million building has lots of features that you’d expect for a celebrity abode. According to Hello! magazine, this includes the likes of five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, and several open-plan living areas.
There’s also a large pool in the garden space that comes complete with a slide and a garage big enough to store 16 individual cars. However, in more recent years, this space has been converted into an indoor gym for parkour. A large golf course is also available for guests to use.
Speaking to Architectural Digest, one of the people behind the design of the house said, “The pool cabana is a grown-up playroom. John wanted to use it for dancing, which is why it has a big open space and stone flooring.”
All the Details on the Private Airport
What really makes Travolta’s house stand out is the fact that it comes with a fully functioning airport. As part of the Jumbolair Aviation Estates, every one of the select few residences that are part of the private community can access the airport for their own personal use.
The entire state is some 550 acres in size and contains several 3-acre lots that connect to the airport’s runway. This allows those living in the community to taxi aircraft from the runway straight to their homes.
Jumbolair Airport itself is the largest private paved airport in the United States, with a runway of 7,550 feet in total. That makes it large enough to land and take off with a Boeing 707 jetliner.
The land was purchased by the Travolta family in the mid-1990s, and they then designed and built the house to custom specifications. In the same Architectural Digest interview, Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston – who sadly passed away in 2020 from breast cancer – revealed just how important the airport access was to her husband.
“It was always John’s dream to have planes in his front yard — to practically be able to pull up to the house — so that when you wanted to go to dinner, all you’d have to do was step out the door, get on the plane and whisk off,” Kelly said. “And we fly in and out a lot. Last year when Johnny was shooting a movie in Tampa, he flew to and from work every day. Each night the kids and I would go out in the golf cart, watch the landing, then bring Johnny to the house while the plane taxied in. It was very exciting.”
