Candace Cameron Bure admits that there are some challenges with parenting her now-adult children. The “Dancing With the Stars” alum explained her approach to maintaining healthy relationships and supporting her kids in their 20s.
Candace Cameron Bure Shares Perspective on Parenting Adult Kids
During the August 25 episode of the “I Am All In … Again” podcast, Bure opened up about the challenges of parenting her three kids — Natasha, 27, Lev, 25, and Maksim, 23.
Podcast host Scott Patterson and Bure discussed a season 2 “Gilmore Girls” episode and Bure weighed in with her own personal experience.
“I have also learned that you don’t lead their lives, they lead their lives,” Bure said. “So you’ve got to give some suggestions, you can share your opinion, but then you’ve got to back off and let them make whatever choice they want to.”
She noted, “And you support it because you want to stay in their life.”
The actress also discussed how different her three kids are. “Oh my gosh. In the womb, no joke. They were all different in the womb with [a] feisty fighter, and then it’s like one of them was so chill, so easy,” Bure shared.
She continued, “And they’re all like that from little kids. And you do realize — because I have three kids, three children in their twenties, and we’re all very close. But man, sometimes I’m like, I’ll say to one like, ‘Were you not raised in the same home as us?’ Because they’re just wired differently.”
Bure added, “They have three distinct personalities, no matter what we do, but it’s then fun to figure it out — how you best connect with them, support them, encourage them, all of that. But it’s different.”
Candace Cameron Bure’s Daughter Shares Favorite Thing About Parents’ Relationship
In her September 2 Instagram Stories, Bure’s daughter Natasha answered a fan who asked what she loves most about her parents’ relationship. Bure and former NHL player Valeri Bure have been married since 1996.
Natasha shared, “They really just have the most fun and youthful relationship. It’s special and so sweet to see your parents super in love. They have been married for 29 years, but still have the cutest spark as if they just started dating.”
She added, “I genuinely love being with them as a couple. They truly bring out the best in each other!!”
On June 22, Bure took to Instagram to celebrate their wedding anniversary. “31 years ago we went on our first official date at his practice rink in Fredericton, New Brunswick. @dcoulier introduced us at a charity hockey game in Los Angeles 4 months earlier,” she shared in the caption.
Bure added, “30 years ago on June 20th, we got engaged in Paris. 29 years ago today, June 22nd, we got married. We grew a beautiful family ❤️❤️❤️. Happy anniversary to my love and best friend forever ♥️ 🥂. And this was the song for our first dance 🥰.”
