The contestants of “Dancing With the Stars” Season 34 brought Broadway magic to the ballroom during the show’s highly anticipated Wicked Night. The October 21 episode transformed the stage into the Emerald City, delivering a night of powerful performances, theatrical flair, and spellbinding choreography inspired by the hit musical “Wicked.”

Director Jon M. Chu, who helms the upcoming “Wicked” film adaptation, joined judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli for the enchanting evening. The show opened with a special message from “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, setting a heartfelt tone for the night.

“‘Wicked’ is a beloved tale of two best friends who change each other’s lives for good,” Erivo said. Grande added, “So rejoicify! Let’s kick off this special ‘Wicked’ celebration with a spectacular opening number created by our wonderful choreographer Chris Scott.”
The pros and troupe dancers then kicked off the festivities with a dazzling medley that included “No One Mourns the Wicked,” “Defying Gravity,” “For Good,” “Thank Goodness,” “Dancing Through Life,” and “What Is This Feeling?”—perfectly setting the tone for a night of magic and movement.
Scott Hoying & Rylee Arnold Bid an Emotional Goodbye

First to perform were Pentatonix’s Scott Hoying and pro Rylee Arnold, who danced a dramatic contemporary routine to “The Wizard and I” by Cynthia Erivo featuring Michelle Yeoh.
Chu said he wished “some of the transitions were a little cleaner,” but added that the performance “swept [him] away to Oz.” Tonioli praised Hoying for letting go, calling it “good to see [Hoying] let loose in the land of Oz,” while advising him to control his passion.
The pair earned a 28 out of 40, bringing their two-week total to 58 out of 80, before being eliminated. “Rylee is my favorite person ever. I had so much fun. I learned so much. And it’s Wicked Night. A perfect way to go,” Hoying said. Arnold added through tears, “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”
