“Dancing With the Stars” champions Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy are the proud parents of three sons: Shai, 9, Rio, 3, and Milan, 2. Though the house is always busy and rarely quiet, the couple couldn’t be happier with life.
After relocating to Florida this year, the family is exploring a new chapter of life together. As fall sets in, the boys are headed back to school. This year, Rio and Milan are attending preschool together.
In an adorable first day of school photo session, Maks and Peta captured their younger sons headed off to their first day. Fans loved seeing a new photo of the younger boys and gushed over Milan’s stunning blonde curls.

In honor of the back to school season, “Dancing With the Stars” alums Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy shared adorable photos of their youngest sons ahead of their big day. Both Rio and Milan are attending preschool this year.
“Yesterday was also Rio and Milan’s first day of preschool together 🥹 We were unwell 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭” Peta shared on Instagram, attaching several photos of her little ones.
“My boys 😍🥹” Maks added, fawning over his sweet sons.
Fans agreed that both Rio and Milan looked adorable as they beamed at the camera. However, many quickly pointed out Milan’s bright blonde curls. While Rio more strongly resembles their older brother, Shai, Milan takes after their mother.

The Chmerkovskiy Family Explores a New Chapter Together
Professional dancers Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd have bravely discussed their fertility struggles in the past. After experiencing three miscarriages, the couple was delighted to welcome Rio in the summer of 2023, with Milan arriving just a year later in the summer of 2024.
Having three sons running around the house can be chaotic at times, but the couple wouldn’t have it any other way.
This summer, the family left their home in Los Angeles and permanently moved to Boca Raton, Florida. It wasn’t any easy decision, but Maks and Peta feel confident it was the right move. They’ve uploaded photos and videos on social media of the boys gleefully playing in the sunshine.
“Something new is never easy. There are tears you don’t expect, goodbyes that hit harder than you imagined, and moments where you wonder if you’re making the right decision. But sometimes you have to leave what’s comfortable to find what’s meant for you,” Peta penned an emotional Instagram post at the time.
“Looking back now, we know this was the best decision for our family. Our boys are so happy, our hearts are full, and we’re incredibly grateful for this new chapter. Goodbye LA. Hello Florida, 🌴❤️” she concluded.
“Dancing With the Stars” season 35 is just around the corner. Fans can tune into the premiere at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15 on ABC. There will be another episode the following night at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16 on the network.
