Jenna Johnson, “Dancing With the Stars” pro and two-time champion, is stepping up like a major mama bear to defend her son Rome Valentin after he apparently caught some strays following his appearance in a dance challenge she posted earlier.
The 32-year-old shares 3-year-old Rome with Val Chmerkovskiy, her fellow “DWTS” pro whom she married in 2019.
In the passionate June 4 video on her Instagram Stories, Jenna stuck up for Rome’s right to rock his unique hairstyle which consists of a spiky style in front that extends to a longer length in the back.
She kept the message meaningful but lighthearted, explaining, “I always want my page to be super positive and uplifting,” but that she felt a need to address “the constant commenting on my child’s hair,” which calls “just unfathomable.”
The fan-favorite dancer went on, “And it’s been since he was 1 years old, 2 years old, he’s had long hair, short hair, he has a mullet…I do not care what you think about his hair. Good thing he is my kid and not yours. I don’t comment about what you do with your kids’ hair, because that is your decision and that’s your child’s decision.”
She then promised, “Rome loves his hair. It makes him so happy. And that is all that matters. So stop commenting on his hair. It’s just – we’re with this.”
At the end of the video, she laughed, “And if it really bothers you that much, just please don’t follow me. It will make you so much happier, if it really rattles you that much. That’s all.”
Rome Has Gotten a Lot of Compliments, Too
Although Jenna’s videos implies a lot of critics targeted Rome over his haircut, he got plenty of love in the comments of the mommy-and-me dance challenge as well, in which he and Jenna performed the viral “Scuba” dance.
“The Mullet is back,” one fan celebrated, while another declared, “Rome is his own vibe and we’re here loving it!”
Val weighed in to joke, “We gon practice when I get home.”
Another commented called the pair “the best mother + son duo ever” while others exclaimed over how fast the little boy is growing up.
Jenna Impressed On the Sports Illustrated Swim Week Runway
The SI Swimsuit Runway show is hitting Hulu & Hulu on Disney+ in a few short days. Jenna reminded fans it premieres June 9 as she shared a clip of her walk.
The toned TV star wore a mesmerizing blue bikini and rocked a deep tan that made every muscle pop. “Baddie 🔥🤤” Val declared when he saw the video.
Jenna called the show “a night I’ll never forget” and thanked the SI team for making “my dreams come true.”
The night also included a group performance where Jenna and a few more ladies from the “Dancing With the Stars” cast surrounded Val in sparkly silver fringed costumes.
Val was the only male pro featured in the Sports Illustrated show, probably because he was the season 34 “DWTS” partner of cover model Alix Earle, a mega-popular TikTok personality. Alix and Val were the runners-up in the finale.
