“Dancing With the Stars” host Julianne Hough is opening up about her awkward red carpet interview with Timothée Chalamet. During the September 5 episode of the “Chicks in the Office” podcast, Hough recalled her conversation with Chalamet ahead of the 2025 Oscars ceremony in March.
“The most cringe moment of my life, thank you,” the dancer said. During the interview, Hough asked Chalamet if he had any go-to dance moves which seemed to catch him off guard. He deferred and asked Hough, “Um, do you?” and she proceeded to do what she called “a little body roll, body roll action.”
Chalamet asked Hough when she learned the move and she said, “Coming out of the womb.” Chalamet then asked if she “had to do spinal adjustments” and she laughed and replied, “I do spinal adjustments now.” There was another stilted pause and Chalamet replied, “Okay, facts, fair.”
“Oh my gosh, that truly … that was horrible” Hough recalled on the podcast.

GettyWhile it’s clear Hough was embarrassed thinking back on the cringeworthy moment, her overall attitude about it was positive. “But you know what? Like whatever, it was something that people talked about,” she explained with a laugh.
She went on to share her personal philosophy when dealing with awkward situations. “I always say, like, you know what, be cringe,” Hough said. “You’re at least putting yourself out there.”
For what it’s worth, the “Chicks in the Office” hosts Francesca Mariano and Maria Ciuffo didn’t see the red carpet interview as all that bad. They both pointed out that because Hough is a dancer it made sense that she would ask Chalamet a dance-related question.
It seems as though many fans agree, as evidenced by the comments on the podcast’s TikTok clip of the interview. “She wasn’t even cringe” one fan wrote, and another had a theory as to why Chalamet seemed taken aback by Hough’s question. “I think the only reason it was weird is because he clearly didn’t know who she was,” the fan suggested.
Hough Is Gearing Up for the New Season of ‘DWTS’
Hough is too busy these days to dwell on the past, as she gears up to host season 34 of “DWTS.” She has been actively promoting the show on her Instagram with fun videos and casting announcements.
The dancer has also been very active this summer, sharing pics and videos of surfing, hanging with friends, and basking in the sun.
