Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino charmed fans in the 1997 film “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” alongside Lisa Kudrow. Now, the stars are getting ready to bring the world a sequel, and Sorvino just offered fans an exciting update.
“All I can say is that we’re close. Very close, I hope, to announcing like a start date and a real, a real green lit production that’s happening within the next two quarters,” Sorvino told Entertainment Tonight during a recent interview.
“We have, you know, the original cast, we have the original writer, an incredible script, we’ve got a great director,” the former “Dancing with the Stars” competitor added. “And we’ve got Lisa and me as Romy and Michele again.”
The first film focused on Sorvino as Romy and Kudrow as Michele, two best friends who attend their high school reunion while trying to convince their former classmates that they live super-impressive lives — ones that are not at all like the lives they’re actually leading.
Fans are More Than a Little Thrilled About the Sequel
When Entertainment Tonight shared the interview with Sorvino on YouTube, plenty of fans left comments revealing how much they’re anticipating the “Romy and Michele” sequel.
“Omg! I’ve been waiting for this sequel for decades!!! ❤🥰,” one person wrote.
Someone else added, “The Romy & Michele sequel is the ONLY film I am looking forward to seeing!!!”
“Romy and Michele is my favorite comedy ever! Can’t wait for the second one,” a third fan said in a comment.
Another person wrote, “I can’t wait for a new Romy and Michele! I hope they bring Janeane Garafolo back too!”

Sorvino Said the Sequel’s Script ‘is Great’
When it comes to the “Romy and Michele” sequel, Sorvino talked to Us Weekly in September 2025, saying, “The script is great. Robin Schiff, the original writer, wrote the sequel, and Lisa [Kudrow] and I have had a lot of input in it.”
“It’s not like us just visiting and other people being [in] it,” said the actress who will also serve as executive producer along with Kudrow. “Romy and Michele again, and we’re seeing what they’re up to nowadays, and the whole gang is back.”
