A public memorial event has been planned for “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Eric Dane in the wake of his tragic passing.
Dane, 53, died on February 19 following a battle with the neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His official cause of death was listed as respiratory failure related to ALS.
The star’s death resulted in an outpouring of tributes and grief from fellow celebrities and fans alike. His fans are delighted to learn they will be able to attend an event to pay their respects to him.
The Event Intends to Make Eric Dane ‘Smile and Feel Loved’
Per TMZ, a source close to Eric Dane’s widow, actress Rebecca Gayheart, says the star’s family have been so deeply moved by all the condolences and tributes coming in from around the world that a public celebration of his life is being organized.
While the event is primarily for the fans, TMZ’s source also suggests it’s intended to make Dane “smile and feel loved and know that his life was not in vain,” as he watches on from the afterlife.
It should be noted, however, that no location or date for the event have been set as of yet.
Dane recently made headlines again when he was among a handful of notable actors who were not mentioned during the 98th Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment — along with the likes of James Van Der Beek and Brigitte Bardot — and that didn’t go down well with his fans.
However, as TMZ explained, it wasn’t a snub by the Academy. It’s simply the case that there’s not enough time in the broadcast to honor everyone who passed away in the last year. However, they are all honored online.
Regardless, Dane’s fans believe he deserves this public memorial and have expressed their happiness at being given the opportunity to pay their respects.
Dane’s Fans Hail ‘Wonderful News’ About Public Memorial
GettyEric Dane’s fans rushed to the comments section of TMZ’s Instagram post about the public memorial. Many had their say about it.
One user commented, “It’s what Mark Sloane deserves, our McSteamy 🕊️♥️ @greysabc.”
Another said, “This is wonderful news! The fans support clearly means a lot.”
Someone else wrote, “Thank you 🙏 for not letting it go at the Oscars. The people who past away should always be announced in the Oscars there are important people that the fans loved 🥰.”
Meanwhile, one particularly angry fan noted, “Typical Oscars . They did that to Juliet Lewis’ father long time great actor Geoffrey Lewis also.”
Finally, someone else simply left a comment saying, “❤️❤️❤️.”
We’re so pleased to learn Eric Dane is getting a public memorial. We’re even more delighted for his fans. Here’s hoping it’s a well-attended event — it’s what Dane deserves — and we’re sure it will be.
May Eric Dane rest in eternal peace.
