While countless fans surely consider Andie MacDowell to be lovely, talented and entertaining, her grandchildren happen to think she’s “fabulous,” according to the star herself.
MacDowell — who is grandma to son Justin Qualley’s daughter, Cozette, and her daughter Rainey Qualley’s little one, Bluebell Coyote Wilson — opened up about her grandkids during a recent chat, which also saw her touching on the final season of her Hallmark show, “The Way Home.”
Andie Is ‘Extremely Animated’ with Her Grandchildren
MacDowell sat down for an interview with the “Today” show on Wednesday, April 15, to discuss various topics, including her relationship with her grandchildren.
When asked how she manages to spend time with her granddaughters, she noted, “Well, I do FaceTime a lot.”
Beyond that, she explained that when talking to the little ones, she is “extremely animated,” which delights them. The loving grandmother added, “My daughter-in-law is really kind of quiet, and my daughter is really quiet. So my grandkids think I’m fabulous.”
Nana Andie Goes by Various Names (& One She Vetoed)
During the same “Today” interview, MacDowell was asked about what her grandchildren call her, with the star saying, “Nana.”
The actress went a little further, recalling, “I went through all these different, like, what are they going to say? But now Cozette says Nana. And so I’m Nana.”
However, she also pointed out, “But sometimes I say I’m Sweet Pie Nana. And I’ll say, ‘You’re my Sweetie Pie Cozette!’ That’s what I say. I love that. It’s so much fun.”
MacDowell also opened up to People in April 2025 about how her grandchildren refer to her, saying, “They came to stay with me, [Cozette] called me Gaga.”
“So, that’s fine with me,” the star continued. “We’ll see how it all pans out if she continues to call me Gaga. But she couldn’t really say anything else, but she was adamantly calling me Gaga, so I was okay with that.”
“Whatever they want to call me, they can call me,” MacDowell said, while being sure to add, “As long as they don’t call me granny. That’s the only thing I said, ‘Don’t call me granny. I’m sorry that one’s out.'”
Andie Says She’s ‘Happiest’ When ‘Loving My Grandbaby’
MacDowell took to Instagram on September 27, 2025, to share a photo of herself and baby Bluebell. In the caption, the adoring grandma wrote, “Grandmother mode. Sweet angel bluebell.”
“I love the simplicity of being at home, comfortable feeling content,” she continued. After reflecting on her life as a “mature woman,” she finished her message by writing, “I send you all a heart full of love and here I am at my happiest at my most joyful with the simplicity of loving my grandbaby.”
