Johnny Reardon ‘Cleared’ to Work Again After Cancer Treatment: ‘So Grateful’

Six weeks after publicly revealing he’d just completed treatment for tonsil cancer, Hallmark Channel actor Johnny Reardon is celebrating that he is “cancer free” and has been “cleared to go back to work in full capacity.”

The Hallmark hunk, whose first rom-com on the network was 2014’s “The Christmas Secret” with Bethany Joy Lenz, shared his happy news via Instagram on February 5, 2025.

In November, Reardon co-starred with his real-life wife, “Chesapeake Shores” alum Meghan Ory, in the Hallmark movie “Believe in Christmas,” but it was filmed in May, before his diagnosis. Reardon’s cancer treatment did keep him from filming the Canadian TV show he’s starred in since 2019, “Hudson & Rex,” so he posted two of the audition videos that helped him land the role, celebrating that he’ll get to return to the set soon.

Johnny Reardon Says ‘I Am Cancer Free’ in New Post

In his post, Reardon said “it was hard not to be there” with his “Hudson & Rex” co-stars “while they continued to make the show great!”

He continued, “I am happy to say though that I am cancer free and have been cleared to go back to work in full capacity! Feeling strong and very appreciative 🙏🏻 I am overwhelmed by the response I’ve had from fans around the world saying how important the show is to them and the well wishes. The show has truly been the dedication of my last 7 years as well as my family’s who continue to support me in the endeavor to bring you more shows.”

After thanking his “beautiful wife,” Reardon added that he decided to post his audition video from 2018. Since he stars with a dog in the show, he and Ory created a short film with their puppy and Ory’s dad, Nathan, made a “guest appearance.” He ended his post by writing, “So #grateful to you all!”

In the comment section, Ory wrote, “Love this so much!! My first time as a camera operator! And Tobi’s big break!”

Johnny Reardon Disclosed His Cancer Battle on Christmas Eve

Reardon disclosed his cancer battle on Christmas Eve 2024, sharing the news in a joint social media post with Ory, featuring two photos — one of him looking strong and healthy from the previous night and another of him in the midst of his cancer treatment.

“Last night was my first night out after my recovery from tonsil cancer,” he wrote. “Has been a long road between these two pictures and the difference is from the love and support I received from my people in my life.”

Tonsil cancer is a form of throat cancer, according to Mayo Clinic. Treatment depends on its stage and whether the cancer cells show signs of human papillomavirus, or HPV, per Mayo, but can include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and sometimes immunotherapy. Reardon has not specified what his treatment entailed.

As part of a lengthy list of people he wanted to thank in his post, Reardon wrote, “My amazing partner @officialmeghanory for taking on our whole world to help me get better. My brave kids who inspired me. My Dad who took me for a walk everyday even when it was hard for me to get out of bed – and I’m sure hard for him to see his son in pain. My Mom @ocean__cottage who made me soups and ginger honey tea and green juices so I could get calories into my body.”

“Kindness is an under appreciated quality in people,” he concluded his post. “We should never under value it. Celebrate it and distribute it as much as possible. It is free and life changing.”

  1. I am really happy to hear this great update. I first saw you in the Football movie and then saw the movie The Christmas Secret. You are good at the comedy and hope you do more Hallmark movies.
I want to wish you continued amazing results and live and enjoy your wonderful family.

  2. We want Johnny Reardon back on “Hudson & Rex.” I understand things happen & there were some changes to the show. Luke Roberts is fine as a fill-in, but it is nowhere near the same without Reardon. I don’t know if it had to do with the dog-human chemistry (since Diesel is also gone) – but without Charlie Hudson there & now we have Mark, (Hudson? Seriously?) the show seems to have lost its compass. If any writers or producers from Shaftesbury Pope want to save the show, they’ll give Charlie’s character a proper dénouement. John Reardon’s work on the show was phenomenal – as was the other cast members (both human & pup) – to take him off like that really was rough, not just for him, but for the show’s extremely loyal fanbase. Please give John’s character a good sendoff, at the very least. Thank you!
