One day after beloved Hallmark star Paul Campbell confirmed that his comedy-infused mystery franchise, “The Cases of Mystery Lane,” has been canceled, shocked fans had already mobilized, launching a petition urging Hallmark execs to reconsider.
Wearing the red ballcap from one of his character Alden Case’s many hilarious disguises, Campbell posted an Instagram photo on October 31, 2025, and wrote, “Show may be cancelled, but he’s still on the Case… IYKYK”
‘The Cases of Mystery Lane’ Cancellation Happened Months Ago
In 2023’s “The Cases of Mystery Lane,” Campbell and co-star Aimee Garcia play married couple Alden Case, a chronically unemployed but adorable, quirky guy searching for his purpose, and Birdie Case, a gifted attorney. When Alden signs up for private investigator classes, he gets sucked into a murder mystery, only to find Birdie may hold the key to cracking the case.
Viewers loved it so much that a petition was started to convince execs to make a sequel. Over 1,300 fans signed the petition and months later, Campbell and Garcia got to reunite for “The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is Listening,” which premiered in September 2024.
The cancellation of the franchise hasn’t exactly been a secret, but many fans may have missed the news or hoped it wasn’t true. In May, Hallmark actor Matt Hamilton — who played dim-witted Officer Newton in both movies — first announced the cancellation on Instagram, writing, “Yes, Paul Campbell and I are building up a nice collection of cancelled shows together. First Turner & Hooch and now this. Not to brag or anything.”
Then, in late September, “Hallmark Mysteries & More” podcast host Eric Rutin shared a screenshot on Instagram of a comment from Campbell on his post about the future of the franchise. Campbell wrote, “We’ve been cancelled. No more cases for the cases.”
But Campbell’s October 31 post was the final nail in the coffin that fans hoped wouldn’t come, and has inspired some to try their best at saving the franchise.
Paul Campbell, Aimee Garcia & Tyler Hynes Have Shared Petition Posts From Fans
HallmarkFans flooded Campbell’s post with comments expressing their disappointment and surprise, including one who wrote, “I can’t believe they cancelled it! I was loving the Mystery Lane movies, and YOU as Alden! Huge mistake. I love you! ❤️”
On November 1, Campbell shared in his Stories multiple posts that people shared about a brand new petition started by fan Susan Fraser on Change.org to “urge the decision-makers at Hallmark Channel to reconsider their decision to shelve ‘The Cases of Mystery Lane.'”
“The clever scripts, complete with the show’s signature nerdy puns, offered a unique twist on the classic mystery genre – something that is sorely missing right now,” she wrote.
Garcia also shared a link to the petition in her Stories, writing, “Aww…a petition for more #CasesOfMysteryLane shenanigans 🕵🏽♀️🕵🏼”
Even Tyler Hynes, Campbell’s buddy and “Three Wisest Men” co-star, shared one of the posts to rally his fans to support the petition.
Paul Campbell Said in 2023 That Alden Case Was His ‘Dream Role’
HallmarkThough Campbell continues to be one of Hallmark’s biggest stars, with two Christmas movies still to come in 2025 — “The Wisest Men” and “Christmas at the Catnip Cafe” — losing “The Cases of Mystery Lane” franchise likely stings because it was a role he loved so much.
In 2023, before the first movie premiered, he told TV Insider that it was his “dream role,” explaining, “It’s quirky and it’s silly and it’s clever, and the relationship between the two leads is wonderful. They’re real characters. There’s humanity. It was everything you could possibly want, plus disguises, fake mustaches. I mean, you can’t go wrong.”
Before the sequel premiered in September 2024, he told AssignmentX, “The hope is always that it will continue. When you film it, there’s always the idea that, if this were to go on for a hundred episodes, you would be thrilled.”
Those who want to throw their support behind the new petition can find it here.

Hallmark needs to continue this mystery series that is entertaining and light!! We need this in the dark times in the USA. Love the characters and their chemistry.
Do not cancel this and deprive your loyal fans!!!!!
My husband and I are long time viewers of Hallmark. We are even Chiefs’ Fans! I am so very disappointed that Mystery Lane series with Paul Campbell and Aimee Garcia. The basic theme is so clever and very entertaining. Hallmark, I am so disappointed in your decision to axe this series.
They keep canceling the ones I like!
Really enjoy this show because it is so different than other shows and it’s just so different and enjoyable! Please give it another chance.
Chalk up another good one cancelled by the stupid decisions of Hallmark. NEW CEO PLEASE!
This was my absolute favorite series on the mystery channel. I love the chemistry between these two and also had a great sense of humor. First they canceled Mystery 101 and now this. Hallmark doesn’t seem to know when they have a good thing going. PLEASE bring it back.
I love mystery lanes with Paul Campbell and Aimee Garcia
It was different and very entertaining! It shouldn’t be cancelled
I loved the Mystery Lane movies. What is going on with Hallmark, and their cancellation decisions? Mystery Lane combines all the good things, including laughter, which we all need. Nothing controversial. Just, wonderful entertainment!!!
Hey what’s wrong with you people? Please bring back Mystery Lane! I am a Mystery junkie and you ha ve very few if no new mysteries on at this time. These two have great chemistry!!!!!!!
I loved Mystery Lane too. It was so much fun to watch. Please bring a few more of them to us.
Sorry never have watched it, I just not a mystery fan, but I still love you! I think you deserve to be yourself. So i hope it comes back and it makes others happy.
Paul is stellar in this series!
Perhaps the “magic” or chemistry wasn’t happening with his co-star? He is completely believable yet there is something missing in her. She doesn’t quite have the Hallmark Sparkle. Her performance was fine. I’d ve loved to see a different actress in that role.
How about a revamp? He shouldn’t be penalized because she wasn’t his best fit.
Please reconsider the cancellation, this was a great series.
Hallmark Mysteries has become disappointing. They constantly play all old mystery shows, then they put out great new ones for a few episodes and then cancel them, even though a lot of people like them (example The Cases of Mystery Lane and Mystery 101). Do they not listen to their customers?
