Hallmark star Melissa Peterson got brutally honest about her friendship with country music queen Reba McEntire. The two met when starring on the comedy “Reba” in 2001, where they built a ride-or-die friendship.
Melissa Peterson Opens Up About Friendship with Reba McEntire
During an appearance on the Jordan Sparks hosted podcast, “What’s Your Spark?” Peterson was asked about her decades-long friendship with the country legend. The “American Idol” winner wanted to know what her friendship with McEntire meant to Peterson.
“You know that your friends, when it’s like the Hollywood stuff, it’s like you share the other stuff, the awful stuff,” the funny woman expressed.
Peterson shared that she and McEntire have each suffered great losses and that they have shown up for each other during those times. It’s not just the bad times either. McEntire and Peterson have shared many happy occasions together, such as when Peterson’s son was born.
However, the “Baby Daddy” star feels it’s those hard, sad, and challenging times that make their friendship the real deal.
“And if I needed her, like if I said, okay, I need $10,000 and an airplane, a hot glue gun, and like whatever it was, and she would just be done. It would be like, you know, that kind of friendship. Like, okay, we got it. What do you need? With real friends in your life, you don’t keep score. You don’t hold grudges about stupid stuff because we’re all lifeing. We’re all lifeing a way,” she spilled.
The two women are so close that they have teamed up again for the comedy ‘Happy Place”, which was just renewed for Season 3.
Reflecting On the Major Success of ‘Reba’
After asking about her bond with McEntire, Sparks couldn’t help but wonder if Peterson knew back in the day what a huge hit “Reba” would become. Peterson had no idea, but she knew there was something right about it.
“Oh, I had no idea. I knew it felt really right, like it felt fun. Like I knew that the chemistry between this cast was something that was pretty special. I knew that the chemistry with the crew was special. I knew that we had it really good,” the Hallmark beauty dished.
Peterson admitted that, because “Reba” was her first major acting gig, she was a bit naive filming the sitcom, especially in the beginning. What she did know was that there was something special about the entire cast, which also included Christopher Rich, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Steve Howey, Scarlett Pomers, and Mitch Holleman.
Again, regarding her friendship with McEntire, Peterson admitted their chemistry and comedic banter were something special from the second they worked together, and she knew that was rare.
“Reba and I together felt very like, oh, this is one of those once in a, you get a couple of these in your lifetime, of like, we know how to work together really well and we play really well off each other,” Peterson said.
25 years later, not only are Peterson and McEntire like sisters, but the rest of the cast remains extremely close, with Rich, Howey, and Garcia Swisher making guest appearances on “Happy Place”.

When you do articles about someone, at least get their name correct. It’s Peterman, not Peterson.
