Beloved HGTV alum Keith Bynum was “very happy” to see 2025 fade into the sunset. On New Year’s Eve, the Detroit-based designer received thousands of likes and comments on a post in which he wrote that “the first day of this year started off horrifically and honestly it didn’t get much better.”
Bynum, who starred on the now-canceled “Bargain Block” with his longtime fiancé Evan Thomas and their realtor pal Shea Hicks-Whitfield, captioned his carousel of 2025 photos, “Not every year is a great one, but I’m grateful for my friends and that our company survived the onslaught of [expletive] it faced. I can feel a different energy already for 2026 and I love it. Love you all!! Happy new year!”
No Longer Starring on ‘Bargain Block,’ Keith Bynum Says He Feels a ‘Different Energy’ Heading Into 2026
In June, Bynum shared the shocking news that although “Bargain Block” had initially been renewed for a fifth season by HGTV, the network pulled the plug in early 2025. He said the surprise cancellation — one of at least seven shows not renewed by the network — left him and Thomas in a financial tailspin. The couple quickly had to shift from working on the show to taking on design clients across the U.S.
Within 24 hours of sharing his New Year’s Eve post, Bynum had received nearly 20,000 likes and over 1,000 comments from fans expressing their disappointment about “Bargain Block” and hopes that he, Thomas, and Hicks-Whitfield would have a better 2026.
“I really miss you guys your show was the only show I could get my husband to watch with me,” one fan wrote. “He would always say it’s amazing how those guys take a house that look like it should be condemned and fix it up so nice, wish you guys all the luck in the world 2026 be good to them❤️❤️”
“Someone needs to pick you guys up,” another commented. “Keep us informed and we will follow! Smart, handsome, real, talented men. We love you!!! ❤️🙌
HGTVSome fans inquired about “what happened” and why Bynum wrote that the year started out so “horrifically.” In his Instagram Stories, Bynum shared a post about the first anniversary of the New Year’s Day attack that killed 14 in New Orleans, where he and Thomas filmed a “Bargain Block” spinoff in 2024 and fell in love with the community.
Beneath the shared post, Bynum wrote, “I’ll never forget the feeling of panic calling @dmduv468 making sure everyone was okay. Love New Orleans and this broke my heart.”

HGTVBynum’s “Bargain Block” co-stars also shared their hopes for 2026. On his post, Hicks-Whitfield commented, “Here’s to Twenty-Twenty-SIX… here for the joy, the glow, and the BLISS!🥂🎉✨️🥰” and he replied, “yess!!! More love kindness and joy!!!”
Thomas, meanwhile, shared more than two dozen photos in his Instagram Stories on New Year’s Eve and recapped the year with brief captions. Over the first photo, taken at Preservation Hall in New Orleans, he wrote, “Goodbye 2025! You were…a trip 🫠”
He noted that highlights included good food, with multiple photos of gourmet dinners, and “consistent” workouts, revealing his washboard abs and massive biceps. He also highlighted photos showcasing their “endless work to create cool and unique spaces … with pretty little details and fabulous luxury.”
After sharing multiple photos of “date nights” and travels with Bynum, Thomas wrote of 2025, “The good comes with the bad … so here’s hoping for more good in 2026.” He also shared a post with photos of design projects they completed in 2025 in multiple states, encouraging fans to reach out if they’re looking for renovation help in the new year.

HGTV has become a has Been! I’ve watched that channel faithfully decades. Your show and Hometown had become the only two shows worth watching ever since Fixer Upper moved to their own network! Now that you are gone, all we get are same old House Hunters, and ridiculous, stupid shows! How many of us are going to win the lottery? Buy a million dollar mansion to renovate? Want to live in the Ugliest house in America?
Please let us know if you get picked up by another network. In the meantime, I may be buying a fixer in MMurphy , NC in a few months! I’d love to have you remodel it!
I have not abandoned hope that a smart tv station picks up your incredible show. Please God that you are able to be telecast somewhere that we can watch. I love to see the love between the three of you.
I pray that we’ll see you again on tv, soo disappointed and bummed! I looked forward to recording, watching and saving each episode every week. The shows are saved so that I can rematch over and over! Hopefully soon we’ll see you continue your journey of fixing and designing on tv!💕💕
I LOVE all three of you!!
I miss your show, and others.
I do not know why HGTV is trying to run itself into the ground, losing viewers daily!
😰
Listen don’t worry. Your viewers will show “them” who has control. Everyone needs to let the network know WE WANT THEM BACK.
We.miss you all, and we hope that someone picks up your show again. But, please stay in Detroit. You performed renovation miracles and improved Detroit communities.
So sad that Bargain Blovk has been cancelled. Just lived watching the transformations and what a great contribution to the City!! HGTV made a terrible mistake
I am so sorry that HGTV dropped this show, it is one of my favorites. I really hope to see you on another channel soon. Not much reason to watch HGTV now.
The shows I watched have been cancelled. Please explain why all HGTV talk about is Jenny Mars. I don’t even want to see anything about her again. It is getting really old.
Great show, did a lot for Detroit and its population.
Loved the interactions on the show, made everything more personal. Designs were fabulous, loved the creativity. Furnished homes unique and fabulous.
I have watched your shows repeatedly, will really miss such a fine production.
I pray that 2026 finds you continuing what you are so good at!
i will really miss watching this. your creativity, obvious love for what you do, your love of Shea and her family are what makes this a special show. hopefully you will get picked up by another network. HGTV has lost so many good shows this year and kept or reinstated some questionable ones.
Bargain Block was one of my favorites!
Mine and the hubs favorite show, our guaranteed time together. So bummed it’s gone. 🙁
Miss you lots and lots…why let you two go and have Holmes? Makes no sense. Good luck with your future.
Praying that NEW NETWORK will pick up your show even if it you have to change the name of the show! HGTV really lost a great one letting you go!
I miss “Bargain Block” so much! Each episode gave me ideas and hope that with just a little bit of money I could do something to my home to make it better. I am facing dialysis sometime in the future and have decided to do it from home. There is a machine used that Makes a bit of noise so I have decided to sleep in a different room from my husband. However, there will still be a need to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I asked myself, “What would the boys do to improve my trek to the bathroom?” Aha, yes I can take out cupboards in the upstairs hallway and put in a pocket door directly to the bathroom, instead of going all the way around…..Problem solved. See, you are still needed to continue to give us framing and structural ideas!!! Whatever you are doing out there in the world please keep it up. You are inspiring and talented.
They took off one of my favorite shows. Growing up in Michigan and living only miles from Detroit, I was excited to see someone taking an interest in restoring some of the beautiful homes that were left to deteriorate. Some of these houses were masterpieces, just abandoned and going to ruins. HGTV what was your thinking about this? Not only was these two young men doing a fabulous job restoring and giving livable low cost housing to the neighborhoods of Detroit, but also raising the taxes that would be taken into the city for future growth.
This was a disappointment to see this show go off the air. I, being a native of Michigan and living only miles from Detroit, know how beautiful some of these older homes are. They were abandoned and the neighborhood was deteriorating. These 2 young men shined a light on the possibilities of restoration and improvement of a city that was slowly slipping away. Detroit in it’s hay day was a beautiful city. Please reconsider this move HGTV.
Loved your show. Don’t understand why HGTV cancelled you and several other shows, while putting some real crappy shows on instead. Some execs need to be fired!!!
