Dave Marrs had a very welcome distraction from grieving for his mother, who just passed away after a long battle with dementia.
The HGTV star posted a picture and video on Instagram of a special day with his youngest son, 6-year-old Luke. In the caption, Dave writes, “Fun day at the fair with just Luke. That kid is awesome!”
The picture shows Dave with Luke in his arms at the fairgrounds, with both giving the camera a thumbs up.
The video shows Luke going down a yellow multi-level slide as his dad videos beside him.
The outing comes after a family-filled week celebrating the life of Dave’s mom, Donna May Marrs. She passed away Friday, September 19.
Dave and Jenny Marrs Navigate a Season of Joy and Grief
Dave and Jenny Marrs have both put up a series of posts about their grief as life goes on.
In an Instagram post about what she called “the weirdest week I can ever remember,” Jenny Marrs detailed the highs and lows of navigating their loss amid the busy activities of life with five kids.
Jenny writes, “We watched Charlotte compete for the first time with Sadie (her dream …. one her Nana would have LOVED to be there cheering her on for), I drove the boys to Kansas City for their school trip (I’m so exhausted but so thankful for one on one time with the boys. We have had so many good conversations and also laughter)”
Jenny says the whole family even tried a visit to the fair but got rained out after one ride.
Dave Marrs Treasures Special Video Memory of His Mom
In the midst of his sorrow, Dave Marrs is also sharing an idea with followers that has left him with a treasured way to hold his mom close.
Dave reveals in an Instagram post that about 18 months ago, he had a photographer capture an hour long conversation between Dave, Jenny and Dave’s parents.
In the interview, they talk through childhood memories, their life as newlyweds, covering all the years up to that day.
Now that Dave has lost his mom, he is finding comfort in watching the video and encouraging others to make a similar video while they can. He writes, “This one hour video is truly something I will treasure for the rest of my life. I would highly recommend finding someone to document the life of those you love.”
