Drew Scott is getting real about what it’s like to travel internationally with two toddlers!
The HGTV star posted a video on his Instagram account that reveals that he and wife Linda Phan took their three-year-old son Parker and one-year-old daughter Piper along on a two week visit to Scotland, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
And after that epic adventure, the Property Brother has some advice for parents who are thinking of taking a European family vacation.
In the video, Drew says they traveled with both Drew and Linda’s parents. And he says their itinerary was “the perfect blend of history, nature and city exploring.”
Drew highly recommends that history buffs visit a European castle, and gives a shout out specifically to Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps of Germany.
Drew tells fans that the castle inspired the design of Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Drew Scott Reveals the Secret to Traveling With Toddlers
Drew Scott has plenty of advice for parents thinking about taking small children on an international trip.
“Traveling with kids across multiple countries definitely takes a lot of planning,” he says in the video.
“Think through everything you could need like a car seat belt lock clip or a travel router for baby monitors,” he advises.
Drew also revealed that he and Linda loved the all-inclusive resort Sonnweis Dolomites in Italy.
“It had everything we could have wanted for the kids like horseback riding, baking experiences, water slides and nature hikes.”
Drew also suggested visiting interactive exhibits to keep kids busy and “tire them out for naps.” He said Parker especially loved the Wow Museum in Zurich, Switzerland.
The adorable video also showed Parker excitedly running toward a massive chocolate fountain at the Lindt Museum.
Drew Scott Takes His Family to His Dad’s Hometown
While there was plenty of sight-seeing on Drew Scott’s family vacation, the trip had much deeper significance for the Property Brother.
In an episode of the podcast “Rodiculous,” Drew said, “Imagine traveling, it was ten people. We had a one-year-old, a three-year-old, a 91-year-old, an 81-year-old and Linda’s parents as well.”
Drew went on, “It was a lot but we went to my dad’s hometown in Scotland. He’s from Scotland. It was a small town. And then we went and stayed in a castle. It was amazing. And I love touring castles. In fact, that’s what got me into architecture as a kid, seeing all these stone castles and the ruins as well.”
Drew told podcaster Rosanna Pansino that seeing all the stone castles and ancient buildings set him on his career path.
“That’s also why I collect medieval armor and swords and old ancient coins. Because I used to be in these castles and I would reach my hand in every crevice and I would find old coins and buckles and things from a thousand years ago. I have a whole collection that is basically from those days as a 5-year-old or a 10-year-old exploring Scotland,” he revealed.
