Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson are speaking out about their HGTV show cancellation. See what the “Married to Real Estate” stars said about the obstacles they faced before the series was canceled.
Egypt Sherrod & Mike Jackson Detail What They Faced Before ‘Married to Real Estate’ Was Canceled
In an October 2025 interview with People, Sherrod and Jackson opened up about some of the obstacles they faced ahead of HGTV’s decision to cancel “Married to Real Estate.”
“I don’t even know what we were filming five, six years ago,” Sherrod shared. “Then fast forward to what it actually became, I think what we’re most proud of is just the possibility of what that showed people, in terms of what you can create, what you can do when you don’t wait.”
She noted, “There were some obstacles that we faced as a family and as television hosts in that, historically, there had not been a show with an African American family on HGTV that had gone more than one season.”
The couple found out about the show’s cancellation when they returned from a family trip. “We came back on this amazing high and I lie to you not, we were still at the airport loading our bags in our car when management and the agency called us to tell us about the show,” Sherrod shared.
She noted, “It was insane. But, literally, Mike and I looked at each other and burst out laughing because it was like, ‘What are the chances of us coming back from vacation the second time and getting this kind of news?'”
“One of the first things we said is maybe we shouldn’t go on vacation anymore,” she said, referencing how they learned their original production team was removed following their 14th anniversary trip to Costa Rica. “Every time we went on vacation, we would get mollywhopped with something.”
Sherrod noted, “We kind of knew something was happening,” adding, “Season 4 just felt very different.”
After their production team changed, Sherrod said there was a significant impact. “We weren’t listened to and it felt like [we were] not necessarily respected the same. But they were all different players — not one single person from season 1, 2 or 3 was left,” she said, noting that “at many points we felt mowed over.”
There were production delays that Sherrod said “threw us into dark weeks … That means production shuts down.”
The HGTV star continued, “For us, this is our business and our reputation.” She shared that, in an effort to make sure their “clients were still okay and happy because no one had been communicating with them,” they spent their own money “just to ensure the work was done and it was done right.”
The delays also had their fans wondering when the show was coming out. “For folks to question, ‘Are you coming back?’ That’s going to affect your ratings. So that mixed with everything else that was going on, it was like, ‘What is happening right now?'”
Jackson shared that rumors about their marriage also were in the mix. “From a fan standpoint, another monkey wrench in it all was false articles flying all over the place about us separating,” he said. “We were like, ‘Where’s this coming from? Because we’re still deeply in love and having fun and traveling.'”
“So you’ve got all the exec changes, you don’t know what time slot and then you’ve got the fans reading articles that aren’t true,” he added.
Despite the setbacks, Sherrod noted, “It was an amazing roller coaster ride. We have no regrets, we lead with love and we leave with love.”
Couple Announce ‘Married to Real Estate’ Is Canceled
On June 24, Sherrod took to Instagram to share the sad news with fans.
“Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate,” she wrote at the time.
She continued, “While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive.”
“And most of all — grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and to each other),” the HGTV star added.

Go to Magnolia Network- I like them better anyway
I agree with you, the Magnolia Network is better.
Really? Magnolia has become boring.
I love Egypt & Mike. They are great together & their work is wonderful.
I hope someone picks up their show, they really deserve it. 🤎
I am surprised HGTV published this article. I mean they canceled Married to Real estate against the wishes of fans, which made us wonder about the cause. Still shocked, as I am shocked they canceled Bargain Block. So sad.
Very sad that they’re not coming back. I was waiting. I love to watch the energy between the two of them and also the love Egypt and Michael will be missed on HGTV. I would really like to see them come back, if this means anything to anyone in the network.
Bring Mike and Egypt back please and 100 days homes
Mike and Egypt were my favorite show,I love her designs very classy and beautiful on HGTV don’t understand the cancellation,Please bring them back they make you feel good watching them verse the HGTV shows that have wat too much drama and makes me turn the channel and refuse to watch it. Please Please bring them back this is making me watch Magnolia network because I don’t care for what is on HGTV.
It was nice to watch a couple very much in love with each other and also could disagree without fake drama. I love Egypt’s design esthetic. They can be so original and tasteful. Re: that one hidden room with a poker table and whiskey tasting blew me away.
I think Married to Real state should get their own like the Magnolia network did. Because you guys are truly missed. If l were y’all too l would get my own network too. Ask your business partners and staff about the network. Miss you guys.
I’ll strongly agree with others Married to Real Estate should be brought back and if not HGTV?? Magnolia Network would be a next choice to Choose. And Yes Eqypt and Mike was one of my Favorites. Their spirit and the love for their clients as well as their Family… I Hope for the best that they will be back to watch and enjoy….
