HGTV favorites Erin and Ben Napier’s beloved series “Home Town” is hitting the road again, but it will look a bit different as the couple will not be hosting the spinoff.
“Home Town Takeover” follows the same concept as “Home Town,” the show which follows the Mississippi couple as they “revitalize a small town by renovating the homes of the town’s changemakers, businesses and community spaces.”
Erin & Ben Napier Won’t Host ‘Home Town Takeover’
Despite 10 seasons on their hit series, Erin and Ben Napier will be forced to take a back seat as their spinoff series heads to Canada.
“Our production company is Canadian. The people who make our show, they’re passionate about this Canadian takeover,” Erin explained during a recent interview with Cinemablend, adding that they are not “legally allowed” to host. “But, because we are Americans, we are not legally allowed to host the show. We can only be in it as, like, guest stars.”
Ben added, “Yeah, a Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent.”
The Minister of Canadian Heritage issued a directive in November 2023 for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to “support a wide range of Canadian programming and Canadian creators.”
“The Commission is directed to ensure that the system maximizes the use of Canadian creative and other human resources in the creation, production and presentation of programming in the Canadian broadcasting system,” the directive stated.
Despite being forced to take a step back, Erin is still “excited to go to Canada.”
“I’ve never been before,” she said, though remained mum on the identities of the new hosts.
“We know who it is, and I can say that we really like them,” Ben revealed. “It’s another husband and wife team.”
‘Home Town’ Season 10 Premieres in January
“Home Town Takeover” fans—who have followed as the Napiers took on renovation projects in Wetumpka, Alabama, Fort Morgan, Colorado and Sebring, Florida, throughout the first three seasons—can catch up with the couple when season 10 of their flagship series premieres January 4.
The Napiers are preparing to undertake their “biggest ‘Home Town’ overhaul yet,” HGTV announced.
“This season, the duo will makeover the maternity ward and waiting room of the local hospital, transform a house for Ben’s brother Jesse and his growing family and remodel a home for a newly engaged couple who plans to host their wedding there,” the network’s site reveals.
