Dave and Jenny Marrs shared some thoughts on a recent emotional HGTV “Fixer to Fabulous” episode. Jenny wiped away tears as she opened up about the cabin they renovated for their dear neighbors who unexpectedly passed away.
Jenny Marrs Gets Emotional While Talking About Bob & Jill’s Cabin
On December 23, Jenny and Dave took to Instagram to share some insight about the “Fixer to Fabulous” episode that was airing that evening.
The episode synopsis notes, “Dave and Jenny buy a $5,000 lakeside cabin to renovate into a cozy retreat for beloved family friends. But, when an unexpected and devastating tragedy strikes their family, the Marrs must completely pivot their plan.”
“We just wanted to talk about tonight’s episode. This one is a really, really personal one,” Jenny shared. “This one we get to share about our dear friend and neighbor, Mr. Bob.”
She continued, “I’m sad because Bob and Jill went to South Africa for three months … before they left, we didn’t have time to film him going to see the property because our crew wasn’t in town.”
Bob did, however, see the property with Dave. The HGTV star called the condition of the home “rough.”
He noted, “Bob trusted us and said, ‘Hey, this is a space I want to create for me and Jill where we can spend time out here with us, with your kids,’ which were basically his grandkids.”
“Basically, Jill and Bob, they got married. She moved into his place … this was something that was going to be for them,” the couple explained.
Jenny noted, “But he saw it, and he saw the vision. Even though it was really rough.”
“We asked him about doing the project as part of the show and he was so excited because he loved being a part of the show,” she added.
Jenny held back tears as she explained that the project “was a hard one.” She noted, “Never happened to us before where we were in the middle of the project and Bob actually passed away.”
The HGTV star went on to talk about the timing of the episode airing “right before Christmas.”
“It’s crazy because he passed the week of Easter, and now the show’s airing tonight, the week of Christmas. And I don’t understand why we did this project this season, like why couldn’t we have done it last year for him?” she wondered.
“I don’t know … I don’t understand the timing but I have to believe that there’s a reason for it,” the HGTV star said. “And I have to believe that there’s other people that are gonna watch and feel hope because they’re grieving in this season as well.”
“I just hope that this episode can be hopeful and joyful and a reminder that this earth isn’t our home,” she said as she wiped away the tears. “And that the reason we celebrate Christmas is because of Jesus and because of eternity and because we get to see those people that we love so much again.”
Jenny added, “The timing is crazy, but I also think that there’s a purpose in it and maybe someday we’ll better understand it. This is a hard one but it’s also a fun project. It turns out to be really a sweet place for our family that we’ve been able to enjoy.”
