HGTV’s Jenny Marrs Reacts to Her Kids Outgrowing Family Tradition, Jokes ‘I’m Fine’

Jenny Marrs and her family have a tradition to celebrate the last day of school and kick off summer vacation, but her older kids are no longer into it. While the HGTV star joked that she was “fine” with the change, she hinted at the bittersweet reality of watching them grow up.

Jenny Marrs’ Older Kids Skip Last Day of School Tradition

There often comes a point when kids become too cool for the traditions they embraced when they were younger.

On May 22, Marrs took to Instagram to share a look at their last day of school fun, noting that not everyone was on board with their annual tradition.

“That’s a wrap on 10th, 8th, 6th and 1st grades! We are SO READY for summer!!!! 🙌🎉” she wrote in the caption.

Marrs added in parentheses, “Also, I’m not overly emotional that the big kids didn’t want to participate in our annual end-of-the-year shaving cream fight tradition … no, no. I’m fine. Really, everything is fine. 🥹😭”

In the video, the chalkboard indicated “Last Day of School, 5/22/26 … First Day of Summer.”

Her kids took turns posing beside the board wearing “Class of” shirts. Then she gave fans a look at their shaving cream fight, with only her two youngest children participating.

Fans Share Love for the HGTV Star’s Family Fun

Marrs’ fans flooded the comments section to share how much they enjoyed seeing the end of year celebration. “Love your tradition of the chalk board and cream fights! So much fun!!” one fan wrote.

“It looks fun! They should toss water balloons to help clean up,” another fan commented. “Yay for summer!!”

Some fans said they could relate to kids outgrowing traditions. “It’s really hard when they get so big they don’t want to do some of the family traditions. It can hurt a mama’s heart,” one fan noted.

“Hahahaha on the lack of participation from the 😎 cool kids!!!!!” another commenter joked.

One fan noted, “They grow up so fast 😢.”

Others shared happy wishes for the end of the school year, with messages including, “I hope it’s a great summer! I’m sure you will be busy!!” “Have a great summer!” and “Congratulations to them all. Enjoy your summer. Love your show.”

In a January 2025 interview with TV Insider, Marrs and her husband Dave shared why fans would be seeing less of their kids (Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte, and Luke) on their HGTV show “Fixer to Fabulous.”

“As the big kids get older, they really shy away more so than ever from the cameras,” Marrs explained.

She continued, “It has been going on for a while now, but really this year they don’t want to have anything to do with cameras, particularly after school and long days.”

“I think you’ll see the big kids not involved anymore,” the HGTV star noted at the time. “If they want to be part of the show, that’s up to them.”

“We never would push that on them,” Marrs added. “I think that’s the biggest change viewers will see.”
