HGTV star Jonathan Scott’s relationship with fiancée Zooey Deschanel was written in the stars. Or, at least, it was written by “The Simpsons” screenwriters.
The “Property Brothers” star revealed how their romance was destined years before they met.
‘The Simpsons’ Predicted Jonathan and Zooey Romance
During a recent YouTube home office tour, Jonathan revealed a shocking detail about this relationship with the “New Girl” star.
“So, ‘The Simpsons’ years and years ago was going to do a cameo by Drew [Scott] and me in one of the episodes, and it didn’t end up happening,” Jonathan said in a video shared on Friday, April 24. “They cut it out.”
The “Celebrity I.O.U” star continued, “I was actually talking to one of the producers of ‘The Simpsons’ after Zooey and I started dating, and he sent me an actual still frame of the animation sketch.”
“This episode that I was in was in an episode that Zooey was in,” Jonathan revealed. “This is long before I ever met Zooey and before we knew each other. But ‘The Simpsons’ once again predicted the future.”
While Jonathan did not specify which episode his scene was cut from, Deschanel has appeared on the long-running animated series three times over the years.
Deschanel portrayed Mary Spuckler, first appearing during season 19’s “Apocalypse Cow” in 2008. She later returned during the season 24 premiere, “Moonshine River,” in 2012, and later that season for the Valentine’s episode, “Love is a Many Splintered Thing.”
The “(500) Days of Summer” star also played Quirk Girl, a parody of her “New Girl” character, during the season 36 finale in 2025.
Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel’s Romance
Scott and Deschanel met while filming an episode of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” in 2019.
They hit it off and their relationship progressed quickly.
“Eight months into our relationship, I already knew Zooey was the yin to my yang, the PB to my J. We were on parallel paths toward the happiness we’d been seeking our whole lives,” he wrote in an essay for “Drew + Jonathan Reveal,” according to People.
After quarantining together during the COVID-19 shutdown, Scott and Deschanel purchased their first home together in December 2021. The home was completed the following summer and the pair went on to renovate a home together in New York City.
In August 2023, the “Brother vs Brother” star popped the question to his longtime girlfriend.
“I guess my big question is, why the heck did we wait so long to meet each other? I can’t wait to be your husband and I can’t wait to continue making you laugh and still be pinching your butt at 90 years old. I love you to the moon and back,” he wrote in a card to his fiancée, as seen in an episode of “Property Brothers.”
The pair has yet to tie the knot, but Scott and Deschanel are making progress in wedding planning.
“I’m okay with the idea of something intimate that’s just the people who really care,” Jonathan said in an interview with People. “And at some point, we’ll figure out a date and a location and all that stuff, but we haven’t done it yet.”
