Former HGTV star and “Good Morning America” host Lara Spencer celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10. As the mother of two gorgeous children, a daughter, Katharine, and a son, Duff, she also wanted to share her love for them through posts on Instagram.
Lara Spencer Highlights Close Bond With Her Children
On Monday, May 11, Spencer dedicated two posts to her children. The first was for her son, and she shared a photo of them embracing and smiling for the camera. In the caption, she wrote, “My first reason to celebrate Mother’s Day everyday.”
Spencer posted a second photo, this time of her daughter, who looks so much like her. The mother and daughter posed for a photo in matching white outfits, consisting of white sweatpants and white T-shirts. In the caption, she shared her thoughts, writing, “Best daughter. Best friend. Happy Mothers Day.”
Fans have been blown away by how similar their appearances are. “OMG Quick Look, looked like a mirror image. Happy Mother’s Day,” a comment reads. “You look like sisters! Beautiful pic!” another person shared.
“Beautiful ladies be blessed,” a third fan shared.
Lara Spencer Shares Glimpse Into Her Life
Spencer shares her children, Katharine and Duff, with her ex, David Haffenreffer. She occasionally gives a glimpse into their lives and shows what motherhood looks like on Instagram. This includes an Instagram post from August 2024, in which she informed fans that she was dropping them off at college. “College drop off complete for these two- now a senior and a sophomore!! Love you guys,” she captioned a throwback photo of when they were kids.
In July 2024, Spencer posted a photo on Instagram of her beloved mother, Carolyn von Seelen, posing with her two children. The adorable photos were in honor of her mother’s birthday. In the caption, she wrote, “It was months in the making and we pulled it off! What a special birthday celebration for the queen of our family. We love you mom.”
Celebrating Mother’s Day Without Her Mom
Von Seelen passed away on February 13, making this the first Mother’s Day that Spencer has had without her. Losing the beloved family matriarch has taken a toll on Spencer, who bravely chose to share her feelings about loss in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
“If you were lucky enough to meet my mom, you know that smile that lit up every room she walked into,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post celebrating von Seelen, just days after her death. “What you might not have seen at first glance was her courage, resilience, endless optimism, deep faith, and boundless love for her family. She was a woman who loved a saying—she had one for everything-and used them often to help us get thru life’s challenges or painful moments. One of her favorite was ‘don’t be sad it’s over honey—be grateful it happened.’”
Von Seelen was a grandmother to 12 and a great-grandmother to four.
Spencer has also used social media to celebrate her “Good Morning America” co-stars, thanking them for their continued support as she grieves the loss of her dear mom.
