A neighbor at the South Carolina apartment complex where Hayden Panettiere was found unresponsive is sharing new details about what residents witnessed as police and emergency responders remained at the property for hours.
A tenant at Judson Mill Lofts in Greenville told Page Six that residents were stunned to learn Panettiere, 36, had been staying at the luxury apartment complex.
“I was shocked, as I’m sure everyone in Greenville was, to find out she was here,” the resident said.
The neighbor said they hadn’t seen the “Heroes” and “Nashville” actress around the complex before learning what happened late Sunday.
“I don’t know that she was there long, and I’m not sure she even ever left the apartment,” the resident said. “I can only speak for myself, but you know, I never saw her, [and] I haven’t spoken to anyone else that said they have.”
Panettiere had reportedly flown from Los Angeles to South Carolina on Saturday, one day before she was found unresponsive.
Hayden Panettiere’s Neighbor Saw 2 Men Sitting With Police
The resident recalled an extensive law enforcement presence at the apartment complex on Sunday, estimating police remained there from around noon until 8 p.m.
The neighbor also noticed two unidentified men sitting outside the apartment with police officers.
“They looked like they were in shock, not speaking, and had their heads down,” the resident said.
The identities of the two men have not been confirmed.
The “Scream” star traveled to South Carolina with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson, according to TMZ. Page Six reported that the unit where Panettiere was staying is an Airbnb. Sources told the outlet that Hickerson and his brother had been living at the residence.
The neighbor also recalled seeing a coroner’s vehicle arrive.
“The coroner vehicle showed up and, of course, I knew then that there was a death,” the resident said. “Then woke up this morning to hear that it was Hayden, which is just still shocking.”
Property management reportedly contacted residents following the emergency response and attempted to reassure them that there was no ongoing threat at the complex.
“The apartment complex has sent out a couple messages saying it wasn’t anything criminal and that there’s no reason for anyone to be scared or anything like that,” the neighbor said.
“It’s still kind of jarring to hear that someone of her stature was here and then that tragically happened to her.”
The ‘Heroes’ Star Arrived in South Carolina the Day Before
The former “Guiding Light” star flew from Los Angeles to South Carolina on Saturday with Hickerson before arriving at the Greenville apartment, according to reports.
A friend found Panettiere unresponsive inside the residence the following day and called 911 at 1:51 p.m.
Emergency dispatch audio referenced an apparent overdose, according to Page Six. However, Panettiere’s official cause and manner of death have not been determined.
Paramedics responded to a report of an “unidentified female” in “cardiac arrest.” Emergency personnel administered advanced cardiac life support and performed chest compressions in an attempt to resuscitate Panettiere.
She was pronounced at 2:32 p.m.
Greenville police confirmed that investigators found no signs of foul play.
“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a Greenville Police Department spokesperson told NBC News.
