Kim Kardashian is headed to Broadway—but, no, don’t expect to see her on stage anytime soon.
After years as a reality star, businesswoman, actress, and lawyer-in-training, Kardashian is adding another title to her already-impressive resume: Broadway producer.
On Monday, April 13, Kardashian confirmed that she is one of the producers for “The Fear of 13,” a show starring Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson. The play is based on the real-life story of Nick Yarris, who spent 22 years on death row for a wrongful conviction.
Why Kim Kardashian Signed on to Produce
The subject matter is one close to Kardashian’s heart, after she has become an advocate for criminal justice reform.
“For the past decade, criminal justice reform has been a deeply personal mission of mine,” she shared while confirming the news on her Instagram Stories. “I’ve seen firsthand how the system can fail, and I’ve committed myself to fighting for those who have been silenced.”
“Theater has a unique power to move us. When you experience a story like this, live, it stays with you. It challenges you to see the human being behind the statistics,” she continued.
“My hope is that this production sparks a real conversation about the true meaning of justice,” she concluded, before urging fans to buy tickets.
Kardashian also issued a separate statement about joining the show through the play’s official website.
“My commitment to criminal justice reform has always been about more than just policy – it’s about people. I’ve learned that sometimes the most effective way to change minds is through a powerful story,” she shared. “The Fear of 13 is that story. It’s a raw, honest look at Nick Yarris’s wrongful conviction and the systemic failures that kept him behind bars for twenty years.”
She added, “I couldn’t be prouder to make my Broadway producing debut with a project that carries such vital weight.”
What Is ‘The Fear of 13’ About?
The show’s official synopsis reads: “Nick’s got a story to tell you. About how a routine traffic stop turned into a conviction for murder. About how he spent the next 22 years on death row. About how he finally petitioned the court to ask not for an appeal—but for his execution date. And about what happened next…”
The real-life Yarris was released from prison in 2004 and went on to write about his time behind bars. He was the subject of David Sington’s 2015 documentary, also titled “The Fear of 13,” on which the play is based.
Brody plays Yarris in the show, while Thompson, according to PEOPLE, stars as a woman Yarris married while incarcerated.
The show, which originally ran in London with Brody attached, was nominated for Best New Play at the Olivier Awards. Brody also received raves for his performance, earning a Best Actor nomination.
The play is playing now through July 12 at the James Earl Jones Theatre in NYC.
