Latto, who released the smash hit song “Big Energy” which interpolates Mariah Carey‘s “Fantasy” in 2021, announced on Monday, May 18 that her first baby has arrived.
The hip-hop trailblazer shared the news with a touching Instagram video featuring clips from her pregnancy.
The 27-year-old impressively recorded her fourth studio album “Big Mama,” which is set for release on May 29, while pregnant. The birth announcement video doubles as the official trailer for the album.
At 29 weeks, she went paddleboarding, the video shows, and at 32 weeks, the music star was in the gym staying fit with weights.
In an emotional clip at 37 weeks, Latto recorded herself tearfully telling the camera, “I’m so ready to meet my baby. I’m never gonna leave when my baby gets here. Like, I need a million dollars to show. Cause I don’t wanna leave the house.”
The video concluded with an audio clip of Latto giving birth, with someone heard in the background encouraging her, “Go go go go go!”
Who Is Latto’s Baby’s Father?
After months of speculation, Latto seemed to confirm in Monday’s video that the father of her child is fellow hip-hop artist 21 Savage.
The two have kept their relationship rather private, but 21 was seen sharing some special moments with Latto in the new video.
Although she didn’t outright say it, Latto heavily hinted in her music video for “Business & Personal (Intro)” in which she debuted her baby bump on March 20.
The video showed 21’s hand, identifiable by his tattoos, on Latto’s belly at one point, and another showed her browsing through an album of what looked like his baby pics.
Latto Got the World Singing Her Hit ‘Big Energy’ in 2021
Latto’s song paying homage to Mariah Carey was a major smash. The song topped Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart on April 9, 2022.
Latto even got Mariah herself on board for a remix featuring DJ Khaled.
The same year, she opened up to Variety about the track and her album-making process for her “777” album on which the song appears.
“I was my own competition when I was recording every day for the past year and a half, making this album. It kind of turned into me vs. me, because I was making these fire songs that couldn’t have just any song come after it on the track list. It was definitely a challenging process, but I feel like I remained authentic,” the outlet says she told them.
