Hosted by music icon LL Cool J and featuring performances from some of the music industry’s hottest performers, it is set to be a great show.
However, fans hoping to see Taylor Swift (who is newly engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce) will be disappointed. The “Fortnight” singer will not be attending the event, E! News reports.

Why will Swift not be attending the MTV VMAs? This question has not been answered. There is some speculation about her reasons for missing the award show: Could Swift be missing the event because of her recent engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce? The couple announced their news on Instagram on August 26. Or could she be in Brazil? The Kansas City Chiefs have a game against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paolo, Brazil, on September 5.
She has missed awards before, but she has been present at the last four VMAs.
Despite not attending the award ceremony, Swift could still win big. Along with Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and Beyoncé, Swift is nominated for the Artist of the Year award. If she wins, she would become the artist with the most Video Music Award wins ever, E! News reports. Swift is currently tied with Beyoncé.
Swift recently shared that she was taking time off after wrapping up her Eras Tour in December 2024. She may want to make the most of her time off because fans will also be seeing, or instead hearing, a lot more from her next month when she releases her much-anticipated album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on October 3, 2025.

Swift and Kelce revealed a lot about their relationship when she joined him on his “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. In a chat posted on August 13, 2025, the couple shared that they are living together. They also commented on how Swift has been taking on new hobbies and projects ahead of her next big career move.
“It’s great because I’m getting my hobbies back,” she said. “When I was on tour, all I had the bandwidth for was, ‘What’s the acoustic mashup this week? How do I say welcome to the Eras Tour in Portuguese?’ That was the only thing taking up my brain space.”
She loves to sew, and she loves to bake. “It’s like I’d say all my hobbies could be categorized as hobbies you could have had in the 1700s. I get all my granny (expletive),” she said. She revealed she loves painting and cooking, adding, “I have a different baking obsession every six months. Right now, we’re very deep in a sourdough obsession that has taken over my life.”
