After the success of her recent album “Lost Weekend,” Phoebe Bridgers is now looking to dominate the big screen.
The singer-songwriter made her acting debut in “Primetime,” which debuted to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival.
In the thriller, Pattinson plays “To Catch a Predator” host Chris Hansen. The movie follows the rise and fall of the cult 2000s TV show. It also explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes process of staging stings and confronting suspected child predators.
Phoebe Bridgers Opens Up About Making Her Acting Debut In Primetime
GettyPhoebe Bridgers spoke at the press conference for “Primetime” about making her debut in the Robert Pattinson film.
She revealed at the Venice Film Festival press conference that she was already friends with the movie’s director, Lance Oppenheim, before filming, with him recently helming her video for “Lost Boys.”
Oppenheim suggested casting Bridgers to Pattinson. “I didn’t even know Lance and Phoebe were friends,” Pattinson said at the press conference, per Variety.“When [Oppenheim] suggested her, I was like ‘Phoebe Bridgers? Why don’t we just get the queen?’”
The “Kyoto” singer admitted she found the proposal “super intimidating,” but “it turns out, working with incredible people actually makes it way easier. I thought I was going to wither with all of these guys. Instead, it was just like so fun and free.”
She added in the press conference: “I just trusted Lance. He made it feel like a documentary in a really fun way. I just couldn’t get over, how do you read something on a script and then act like you’re thinking of it in that moment?”
The singer plays Del Harvey, a young decoy who plays both boys and girls to try to entrap men looking to enter inappropriate relationships with minors. The director told The Hollywood Reporter he was inspired to cast Bridgers due to the contrast between her baritone speaking voice and “angelic” singing.
“With how she’s able to use her voice in different environments, I kept thinking, ‘That’s exactly what a decoy would do.’ I remember texting her like, ‘This is so random, but I think you are perfect for this part,’ and she responded, ‘I don’t really act, I’ve never done it, I don’t know how.’ ”
Phoebe Bridgers Wore An Ethereal Lavender Gown On Red Carpet
Phoebe Bridgers turned heads on the red carpet for the premiere of “Primetime” at the Venice Film Festival.
The singer left little to the imagination as she embraced the nude-dress trend in a lavender-gray gown with intricate lace embroidery and gathered panels.
She paired the dress with ethereal pastel makeup and her trademark peroxide-blonde hair tied up in a 90s-style do. Earlier in the day, the “Bobby” singer sported a smart black business suit, which she proudly paired with unshaven legs.
Also attending the premiere were members of the cast and crew, including Pattinson, Merritt Wever, and Skyler Gisondo, alongside the director and the crew. Pattinson’s real-life partner, Suki Waterhouse, joined him on the red carpet of the film festival.
