Tom Hanks and his gorgeous wife, musician Rita Wilson, made a rare red carpet appearance together when they attended the LACMA’s Opening Gala on Thursday, April 16.

His simple, yet stylish outfit allowed Wilson to really shine, quite literally.

GettyWilson and Hanks’ relationship has withstood the test of time, and they have been married for almost four decades. The couple met on ABC’s “Bosom Buddies” in 1981, but were just friends, People reports. They acted together for the first time in 1985 on the film “Volunteers,” and in 1986, when they attended the “The Three Amigos” premiere together, making their relationship public.
The couple was married in 1988, but their connection was instant. “Rita and I just looked at each other and — kaboing — that was that,” Hanks told GQ, People reports. “I asked Rita if it was the real thing for her, and it just couldn’t be denied.”
Wilson and Hanks share two children, Chester “Chet” Hanks and Truman Hanks. The “Forrest Gump” actor is also a father to two other adult children from his marriage to ex-wife, Samantha Lewes. They are Colin Hanks and Elizabeth Ann Hanks.
Wilson and Hanks’ love for each other has been a beautiful thing for fans to witness in an industry that is not often celebrated for its long and successful relationships. In 2015, Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, People reports. Hanks was supportive throughout her recovery, and in a March 2025 Instagram post celebrating 10 years cancer-free, Wilson made a video for fans sharing how grateful she was. She also praised Hanks as a “loving, supportive husband.”
Their recent public outing shared a glimpse into their beautiful relationship, and they appear so comfortable and content with each other.
