Jenna Ortega made her mark at the 2025 Emmys on Sunday, September 14, when she showed up in a Givenchy top that came right off of the runway. Film fans also surely noticed that the top appeared to have been inspired by the iconic outfit worn by Isabella Rossellini in the movie “Death Becomes Her.”
The eye-catching look featured a long black skirt with a significant slit up the side as well as a top that was somewhat revealing. Made up of various stones that were all different colors, shapes and sizes, the “Wednesday” star opted to go bare underneath.
The look was the handiwork of Ortega’s stylist, Enrique Melendez. Sitting down for a chat with the Jess Lucero’s Plus One show, Melendez revealed that he was worried about one aspect of the daring top. He explained, “She actually was like, ‘Enrique, I’m not actually concerned about a slip, but I want to be respectful to the Academy, obviously.’ I’m worried about a slip; we used proper tape and everything. It was morseo our first time doing something this revealing at all.”
Ortega’s Top Was Surprisingly Heavy
GettyInstead of worrying about a wardrobe malfuntion, Ortega was busy dealing with the weight of the piece she was wearing to the Emmys. That’s why she asked her stylist for something different next time around.
“You can’t really modify something like that [because] it’s a totally couture piece,” Melendez explained. “It was meant to be.”
“With this Givenchy look, she’s like, ‘Enrique, I love you, but can we please do something more practical next time?'” he said. “That thing was digging into her poor collarbone.”
Why is that? Well, it turns out that the top weighed “a good 20, 30 pounds at least.” Melendez added, “Imagine that on your bone.”
Ortega’s Personal Style Isn’t as Flashy
While Ortega has been showing up to red carpets for her Netflix hit in outfits that are perfect examples of glamourous goth, her personal style is quite different. Melendez told The Hollywood Reporter on August 7, “Jenna’s personal style is super simple, super streamlined.”
“She would wear the same thing if she could every single day,” he also revealed.
Beyond that, he noted that he appreciates the fact that she lets him dress her up in certain ways, saying, “I tell her thank you, because a lot of times, it’s just for me.”
