Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are teaming up for a new crime thriller, “The Rip,” and it’s one of Netflix‘s first big movies of the year. Now, ahead of its January release, the streaming giant has unveiled a new trailer.
In additon to Damon and Affleck, the film stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler. Joe Carnahan co-wrote and directed the upcoming movie with Michael McGrale. Carnahan is best known for his work on “Smoking Aces.” Affleck and Damon are also both executive producers on “The Rip.”
The new movie also marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Artists Equity, which is an independent artist-led studio founded by Affleck and Damon in 2022. The studio focuses on producing films and offering creative teams larger profit shares than other studios.

According to Deadline, Netflix will release “The Rip” on January 16. The movie focuses on a team of police officers who begin to turn on eachother after $20 million is discovered in a stash house. Outside forces then intervene, triggering an all-out war for the characters. The movie is inspired by true events.
Netflix released the trailer for the film on January 5. It features Damon and Affleck’s characters attempting to count ahaul without being noticed. In it, both characters are paranoid.
Damon’s character can be heard saying in the trailer, “From the outside looking in, it seems simple. Seize the cash, count it, and turn it in. On the inside, it’s different.”
Both Actors Have Other Projects on the Horizon
There’s a great deal of buzz about “The Rip,” partly because Damon and Affleck are cast in the film. However, both actors have other movies in the works. Regarding Damon, he’s set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”
“The Odyssey” will hit movie theaters on July 17, 2026. He spoke about the upcoming movie in an interview with Empire, calling it a “cinematic blockbuster.” And stating that it’s the perfect movie for the summer months due to its large scale.
The beloved actor also has several other projects in various stages of production. As for Affleck, he also has upcoming movies. According to Variety, he’s set to star in the Netflix thriller “Animals.” His casting followed Damon’s departure from the film.
