Debut Date Set for Netflix Spinoff of Beloved Nickelodeon Favorite That Launched Ariana Grande

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Nickelodeon hosted a plethora of tween-oriented comedies that were beloved by the cable channel’s young viewers.

Now that those viewers are no longer kids, it’s natural that some of those series have been getting the reboot treatment.

For example, grownup Miranda Cosgrove returned to “iCarly” in 2021, with the title character and her pals now navigating the pitfalls of adulthood.

Now, another Nickelodeon favorite is being revamped, set to debut on Netflix this fall.

‘Hollywood Arts’

“Victorious” aired on Nickelodeon from 2010 until 2013, with a cast including star Victoria Justice, along with Daniella Monet and future pop superstar Ariana Grande.

The original series followed aspiring young star Tori Vega (Justice), who attends Hollywood Arts High School, where she and her fellow students — and her older sister, Trina — got into all manner of sitcom shenanigans.

That story will be continuing in “Hollywood Arts,” a new Netflix comedy in which Monet reprises her role as Trina Vega — who is no longer a student there, but a teacher.

“Daniella Monet, who starred as Trina Vega during the show’s four-season run, will reprise her role as an aspiring actor who still hasn’t gotten her big break,” notes Tudum. “Hijinks ensue when she returns to her alma mater to teach a whole new generation of performing arts students.”

Showcasing Young Talent

In “Hollywood Arts,” Monet is joined by a cast of talented young performers, incuding Alyssa Miles (“Hanging out with Alyssa and Xavier”), Emmy Liu-Wang (“Raven’s Home,” “Slumber Party”), Peyton Jackson (“Woman in the Yard,” “Young Dylan”), Erika Swayze (“School Spirits,” “Davey & Jonesie’s Locker,” “Workin’ Moms”) and Martin Kamm (“Unsung Hero,” “Web of Spiderman”).

“Coming back as Trina alongside such a dynamic, powerful cast of newcomers is something I feel very lucky and grateful to do,” Monet shared.

“’Victorious’ was in a lot of ways life-changing for all of us,” she added. “Our cast is forever bonded by that experience, and to think that I have an opportunity to steward anything close to that is a feeling I can’t begin to describe.”

Teaching Gives Trina Purpose

As Monet said during an interview with Teen Vogue, becoming a teacher wasn’t something that was on Trina’s “bingo card, but there was something about it that hit something for her that gave her purpose.”

In the updated series, Trina has spent the past decade-plus in the shadow of her more-talented younger sister, which has given her an intimate look at both the higher and lower rungs of showbiz.

“Not everyone has to be this huge star to understand what it takes,” Monet explained. “Trina’s not afraid to go for it. That’s a really great skill when it comes to opening up the minds of kids who are looking to explore their own talents.”

‘A Little Shocked’ About a Reboot

Monet had long since moved on from “Victorious” when she first learned of plans to reboot the series — while filming Hallmark Channel Christmas movie, her first acting gig in five years after taking time off to raise her young children.

“Like anyone else would’ve felt, I was a little shocked,” Monet recalled of hearing the “Hollywood Arts” pitch.

“To take a show that was so special in that time and has lived on for so many years, and to actually have someone propose the idea of bringing any version of that back, I think I had to process the idea of that,” she admitted. “It was a little hard to believe that it was possible.”

When Will ‘Hollywood Arts’ Premiere?

The adventures of Trina Vega will continue when “Hollywood Arts” arrives October 15 on Netflix.
