Comedian and actor Alex Duong has tragically passed away at the age of 42 after a brave cancer battle, TMZ reports.
The outlet learned of Duong’s death from a close friend of the family who was with the actor when he passed, having gone into septic shock on Friday, March 27. He passed away at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by family and friends.
Duong was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in 2025, which is a rare and aggressive type of soft tissue cancer that affects muscles in the arms, legs, head and neck, and abdomen, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The diagnosis came after he developed a headache behind his eyes as well as swelling and discoloration of his eyes. Duong eventually lost vision in his left eye, per the Las Times.
In August, after he was diagnosed, some comedians got together and put on “The Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Show.”
Tributes Pour In For Alex Duong
“Rest in peace, Alex Duong. Your humor, strength, and kindness made the world brighter. Thank you for all the laughs and love,” The Comedy and Magic Club posted on Instagram.
“I’m devastated to hear about the loss of my sweet and hilarious friend Alex Duong @dapperduong. Such a beautiful soul who would tell me how much he loved his daughter Everest and how special she was to him every time we talked. A good man who always had positive energy even in the hardest times. So much so that I didn’t think this was going to happen. There’s a link in his bio to a GoFundMe if you have the means to help this family in need. Go watch his standup and laugh a lot. My love to his wife and daughter and all his friends and family. Ugh. ❤️❤️,” comedian Taylor Williamson shared.
“Just heard about the tragic passing of Alex Duong who had been dealing with health issues for some time. He was a funny comic, great roast battler, and rarest of all, a gentle, sweet person that truly loved making people laugh just for the pure sake of it. It’s a weird community where we publicly goof on each other and don’t always say how much we appreciate someone. Well Alex, I very much appreciated you. Rest in peace,” comedian Mike Lawrence wrote.
Alex Duong Is Survived By His Five-Year Old Daughter and Wife – Here’s How To Support
A GoFundMe was set up to help Duong and his family throughout his cancer battle. And many continued to show support following news of his passing, with the person who set up the fundraiser sharing a message.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude — because of you, we have already reached the original goal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” she wrote on Sunday, March 29. “At the same time, with Alex passing, Christina’s situation has become more serious and the financial needs ahead are much greater than we could have anticipated. Alex’s memorial service, Everest ‘s education needs, ongoing care, daily support, and what lies ahead for his family mean we must continue raising funds beyond this initial goal.”
“If you’ve already given, thank you — truly. If you’re able to share or contribute again, it would mean everything right now,” she continued. Please keep Alex and his family in your prayers. Your support is carrying them through the hardest time of their lives. We will update you with respect to details of his ‘Celebration of Life’.”
