‘Pretty in Pink’ Star Andrew McCarthy Announces Bold New Project

“Pretty in Pink” star Andrew McCarthy rose to fame in the ’80s, but the actor shows no signs of slowing down. In January 2026, he announced an exciting new project with his social media followers. “The Devil is alive in Salem – and Ireland,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ll be performing in Arthur Miller’s TheCrucible from Feb 9-March 21 at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin, with a terrific cast.”

As Parade revealed, McCarthy stars as Deputy Governor Danforth, one of the play’s central characters. However, this isn’t the only new project on the horizon for the actor; McCarthy also has a new film and a new book on the horizon for 2026. It’s sure to be a busy year!

Stage and screen aren’t the only places McCarthy has displayed his talent over the years; he’s also a published writer. In March 2026, his newest project, “Who Needs Friends: An Unscientific Examination of Male Friendship Across America,” hits shelves. He spoke to People in late 2025 about the inspiration behind the book.

“I really missed their input in my life,” he said of some friends that he hadn’t seen in quite some time. “They changed my life when I was young, as friends, and I just hadn’t seen them in so long.” He went on to explain that age and wisdom provide a better sense of how to prioritize friendships and other important aspects of life.

The actor took a road trip with some of those old friends, and along the way, they discussed their friendship experiences. “Guys don’t ever talk about that,” McCarthy reflected in his interview. “There’s a huge epidemic of loneliness with men that they’re ashamed to talk about. So, it was really interesting to connect with men about that.”

Can’t make it to Dublin to see McCarthy on stage? You’ll soon have your chance to see him back on the big screen again. McCarthy stars in the upcoming film, “Fate,” about a firefighter who makes a surprising connection with a person from the past. Director Jonathan Baker announced the film back in August 2025, noting that it will have a 2026 theater release.

Before “Fate,” McCarthy took the lead in 2025’s “Orion,” a sci-fi thriller. He has also taken several turns in the director’s seat, including for the 2024 documentary “Brats.” The fan-favorite doc brought the infamous Brat Pack back together, discussing the impact ’80s teen movies had on their lives.

McCarthy previously teased the film in a 2023 social media post, where he showed photos of himself and Emilio Estevez reuniting. “Felt like meeting a long lost brother,” he said of sitting down with his co-star for the film.
