Angelina Jolie Reportedly Reacts to Brad Pitt’s Sobriety Revelation

Angelina Jolie is reportedly not surprised by Brad Pitt’s latest revelation about his relationship with alcohol.

Pitt, 62, recently disclosed that he is no longer completely sober after spending seven years without drinking.

The actor opened up about the change during an interview with Esquire published Monday, Aug. 10, explaining that he had returned to alcohol in moderation after years of abstaining.

“I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon,” Pitt said with a laugh.

The admission came during a conversation at Pitt’s Los Angeles home, where he offered the interviewer wine. While Pitt said he can now have a few glasses, he emphasized that he has learned he cannot allow drinking to become excessive.

“In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me,” he explained. “Not in big quantities.”

Pitt also said he has become increasingly protective of his mornings and does not want drinking to interfere with the next day.

“I have to be professional about it,” the “Fight Club” star said.

Jolie Reportedly Reacts the the News

According to a source cited by Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice column, Jolie was not caught off guard by Pitt’s decision, according to the Daily Mail.

“Angelina is not surprised. She tried to warn people. She knew this was always a possibility,” the insider claimed.

The source also alleged that Jolie has long believed that stopping drinking did not necessarily mean that the issues Pitt had previously struggled with had disappeared.

“She doesn’t believe Brad has fundamentally changed. She believes Brad is who Brad is, and no amount of sobriety or reinvention changes that,” the source claimed.

Pitt first publicly discussed his decision to stop drinking during the difficult period surrounding the end of his marriage to Jolie.

Pitt Previously Talked About Sobriety

In a 2017 interview with GQ, he acknowledged that he had a problem with alcohol.

“I don’t want to live that way anymore,” he said. “I just ran it to the ground. I had to step away for a minute.”

Over the years that followed, Pitt spoke about maintaining his sobriety and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as part of his efforts to change his relationship with alcohol.

His latest comments mark a notable shift, although Pitt made clear that he does not view his current drinking as a return to his previous habits. Instead, he described himself as being more cautious and aware of his limits.

The actor’s comments come years after his highly publicized split from Jolie. The former couple were married for two years and share six children. Their divorce proceedings continued for years before being finalized in 2024.

While Pitt’s relationship with alcohol has previously been connected publicly to that difficult period, his latest comments focus more on where he is now and the boundaries he has established for himself.

For Pitt, that appears to mean allowing himself some flexibility while remaining mindful of how drinking affects his life — particularly the mornings he has come to value.
