Angelina Jolie is entering a new stage of motherhood now that all six of her children have reached adulthood, and she is embracing who they have chosen to become. Jolie, 51, spoke to L’Officiel about Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt. With her youngest children now 18, the Oscar winner said one of her priorities has been giving each child room to build a life separate from hers.
“They’re definitely individuals. That makes me very proud, because one of the most important things, I think, is to basically not get in their way,” Jolie said.
What Did Angelina Jolie Say About Her Children Becoming Adults?
The Maleficent star said parenting older children has required a different kind of support.
“As a parent, you try to do many things, but you also try to not get in the way of this human being who has a life separate from yours and so much potential in their own mind. You want to make sure that you support them.”
Her children are now Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Knox and Vivienne, both 18.
GettyTheir transition into adulthood also closes a long custody chapter for Jolie and Pitt, 62, who separated in 2016. With the twins turning 18 in July, the former couple no longer has minor children subject to a custody arrangement, as reported by Vanity Fair.
What Are Maddox and Pax Doing Now?
Some of Jolie’s children have already worked alongside her in Hollywood, though she said she expects them to learn every part of filmmaking rather than receive special treatment.
“I think if you have any interest in working on film, you need to be a part of the crew and do the hard work and know all the different departments,” she said.
Getty“They’ve worked on a few films that way, and they’re both doing other things, too: Maddox is focusing on being a pilot, and Pax has his photography, but I think he does have an interest in film.”
Even on set, Jolie said the family dynamic does not change. “Obviously it’s nice for me to be around them, but I am just Mom, wanting to be around her family.”
What Changes Have Angelina Jolie’s Children Made?
GettySeveral of Jolie and Pitt’s children have also made individual choices about how they use their surnames.
Shiloh, Zahara, Maddox and Vivienne have taken steps to remove Pitt from their names. Knox omitted Pitt from his high school diploma, while Pax has continued to use his father’s surname, as reported by Page Six.
The decisions reflect the independence Jolie described when discussing her children and their right to make their own choices.
What Is Angelina Jolie Planning as an Empty Nester?
With day-to-day parenting changing, Jolie is also thinking about what comes next for her. “I really love and am looking forward to more connection and community,” she said.
“I’m not somebody who vacations or shops or things like that. I envision more field work, more travel, and just being out in the world. Get my motorcycle back, get back in a plane. I don’t know.”
She said her children are encouraging that return to adventure.
“They had Mom when Mom needed to be Mom. Now, they’d like me to call them from Tunisia having just landed a plane to meet with local artists. I agree that would be very nice.”

She is an awful mother, she is supposed to be a humanitarian and I’m pretty sure that parental alienation wouldnt be looked at as humane. She poisoned those kids against their dad and she can deny if all she likes.but the proof is in the pudsing. She is a scorned, vindictive woman.
