Brooklyn Nine-Nine & Criminal Minds Alums Team up for New CBS Dramedy

Actors from the hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Criminal Minds are teaming up for a new CBS dramedy, and this production is now moving forward for the network’s 2026–2027 season. Here’s everything we know so far.

Melissa Fumero, beloved for playing detective Amy Santiago on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will join the cast of a new comedy-drama alongside Matthew Gray Gubler, best known for his role on Criminal Minds. The series — a full-fledged dramedy — is titled ‘Einstein’. According to Variety, the show will follow Lewis Einstein, the brilliant physicist’s great-grandson, portrayed as “brilliant but directionless.”

Fumero will also return to familiar territory in the new production, once again playing a detective. This time, she will portray Teri, a New Jersey State Police member.


What ‘Einstein’ Is About, Starring by Melissa Fumero and Matthew Gray Gubler

Just Jared reported that the official synopsis describes Gray’s character “as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.”

Meanwhile, Fumero’s character is described as: “Sharp and disciplined, Teri demands a lot from her colleagues and even more from herself, and feels conflicted about working with Professor Einstein”.

When ‘Einstein’ Will Premiere

CBS describes Einstein as a “drama with comedic elements.” Variety reports that production will begin this month, and CBS will air the series in the 2026–2027 season.

CBS originally ordered the project as a pilot in August 2024. The network planned it for the 2025–2026 season but later pushed the debut back one year.

Gubler is also working in the project as a producer. The executive producers include Andy Breckman, Randy Zisk, Michael Rauch, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz.

The creative team is still refining the narrative arc for the new CBS 2026–2027 season. Besides, writers continue developing the series’ detailed plot and story direction. But the series is already generating a significant buzz and drawing exceptionally high expectations from the viewing public. 

The new CBS dramedy series builds anticipation with its lead actors, known for their acclaimed performances across multiple genres. Their previous work showcases a remarkable acting range in television.
