Legendary comedian Chris Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock were married in 1996 before divorcing in 2016. But even so, it seems like they’ve developed a strong co-parenting relationship for the sake of their daughters. Together, they are the parents of Lola, 23, and Zahra, 22.
This week, the exes came together to celebrate Zahra’s college graduation. She earned magna cum laude status, and her family couldn’t be prouder.

Despite Chris Rock and his ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock may have their differences. But at the end of the day, they are devoted to their daughter.
On Zahra Rock’s personal Instagram, she shared many photos celebrating the monumental milestone with friends. She even included a clip of herself receiving her diploma.
So far, comedian Chris Rock has been quiet about the celebration on his own social media. But his ex-wife absolutely gushed over their daughter.
“Congratulations, Zahra! Your mom and dad, and your entire family, are so proud of your extraordinary academic achievements,” Malaak Compton-Rock began the sweet tribute on Instagram. She and her ex-husband warmly stood together in the photos, united by their shared pride for Zahra.
According to the post, Zahra has always held a “lifelong love of literature.” She graduated with an English degree in Narrative Studies from the University of Southern California with honors.
Compton-Rock went on to thank all the wonderful people in their lives who supported Zahra’s educational journey. She recognized many family members, and even a family who stepped up to ensure Zahra was cared for while away.
She also commended Zahra on her studious nature and how “deeply dedicated” she was to her schoolwork.
“I cannot fully express how proud I am of the brilliant, thoughtful, compassionate young woman you have become,” Compton-Rock added. “Watching you walk across that stage was more than a celebration of academic success, it was a reflection of your perseverance and your beautiful spirit.”
“The world is so much brighter because of the gifts you carry, and I cannot wait to see all that you will do next. We love you endlessly and are cheering you on every step of the way. Fight On forever! ❤️” the proud mother concluded the post.

Chris Rock’s daughter wasn’t the only celebrity child to graduate this May. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe’s son Deacon graduated from New York University, as did Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson’s son Ryder.
