There’s no doubt that Christopher Meloni has a special relationship with Mariska Hargitay. Along with being former costars on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” the two are also IRL friends. That’s why it’s always a treat to see them spending time together.
For instance, just check out the new photos that Meloni shared featuring the pals getting up close and personal …including one involving Hargitay’s armpit. Yes, you read that right.
Christopher and Mariska Will Always Be Adorable Together
Meloni took to Instagram on Thursday, June 4, to share a trio of pics that saw him hanging out with Hargitay. In the caption of the post, he wrote, “Checked out a pal on BWay. Well done @therealmariskahargitay … Someone needs a Tony to add to their collection.”
If you’re unsure about the context of the message, the actor was referring to his friend’s Broadway debut in “Every Brilliant Thing.”
In the first photo, which is a striking shot in black and white, the pair can be seen standing together as Meloni holds a snack and Hargitay has her arms around his shoulders.
The third pic is a lovely frame-worthy full-color shot of the two posing side by side as they both smile at the camera.
Granted, it’s the second image that might surprise you. In it, Meloni grips Hargitay close and holds her one arm above their heads. At the same time, he’s leaned in and has his nose right up against her armpit. That’s why he added another note to his Instagram caption, writing, “She brought a freshness to the part — and I know, cuz I double checked — it’s what partners do!”

Someone else left a comment, saying, “The sniff is crazy but it’s the ‘is what partners do’ in the caption what got me ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
How Close are Mariska and Christopher?
GettyWhen it comes to the relationship between Meloni and Hargitay, they are obviously as close as can be, and that’s something that’s endured over the years.
“From the second we met, bells went off,” Hargitay told TV Insider in September 2018, while talking about Meloni. “We knew we were going to be a huge force in each other’s lives. He was intense and mercurial but also fun.”
In turn, Meloni opened up about his relationship with Hargitay while talking to Entertainment Tonight in July 2020, saying, “[SVU] gave birth to Mariska and Meloni, and [their characters] Benson and Stabler. So we’re kind of inextricably linked and connected in that way.”
“Beyond that, we’re very good friends,” he added. “I think we value each other.”
Meloni also mentioned what it’s like when they reunite, saying, “We just pick it up right where we left off and we’ve said it’s like we don’t have this relationship with anyone else… It’s unique, it’s full of laughter, she’s full of love. We just kind of fall seamlessly into that place every time we see each other.”
