Claudia Cardinale, an iconic Italian film actress, has passed away, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 87.
Her agent, Laurent Savry, shared the news of Cardinale’s passing. France24 reports that Cardinale passed away near Paris and in the presence of her children. No other details were shared about her passing.

GettyShe was born to Italian parents in Tunis, Tunisia, on April 15, 1938, and was named “The Most Beautiful Girl in Tunisia” in 1957, according to author Jurgen Muller. Cardinale boasts a long and successful film career, with over 120 acting credits between 1956 and 2022.
She rose to fame in the 1960s, starring in films such as “The Pink Panther,” “8 1/2,” and “Once Upon a Time in the West.” “In the course of a long career, comedy would prove to be one of her strong points, as she showed in Blake Edwards’ legendary ‘Pink Panther’ series,” Muller wrote in his book “Movies of the 60s.”
“She leaves us the legacy of a free and inspired woman both as a woman and as an artiste,” Savry said in her statement to France24.
‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ Actress Remembered
The Washington Post wrote a post on X saying, “Claudia Cardinale, an actress who brought an ethereal allure to 1960s world cinema, died Tuesday in Nemours, France, outside Paris. She was 87.”
On X, author James Kenney wrote, “R.I.P. to the exquisite Claudia Cardinale, who had the best smile in 20th century cinema.”
Film historian and writer James L. Neibaur wrote, “SAD FAREWELL – Claudia Cardinale She was in some of my favorite films including Big Deal on Madonna Street, Once Upon a Time in the West, 8 1/2 and Rocco and His Brothers. She was so beautiful. Claudia has passed away at age 87. RIP.”
