Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Son Is Dating Thandiwe Newton’s Daughter

There’s a new young Hollywood romance in the spotlight.

Cooper Hoffman, the 23-year-old son of late Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, has officially confirmed he is dating 21-year-old actress Nico Parker, the daughter of Thandiwe Newton and filmmaker Ol Parker.

After more than a year of speculation surrounding the “Poetic License” costars, Hoffman finally opened up about their relationship and revealed the sweet way they became a couple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hoffman and Parker met while filming Maude Apatow’s directorial debut, “Poetic License,” in late 2024. However, they didn’t officially start dating until a few weeks after production wrapped.

Their romance became official when Parker traveled to New York and met Hoffman’s mother, costume designer Mimi O’Donnell.

“We didn’t officially start dating until a few weeks after filming, when she came to New York to meet my mom, and I asked her to be my girlfriend,” Hoffman told the outlet. “It was very sweet.”

Nico Parker and Cooper Hoffman Had Fans Guessing for Months

While Hoffman is only now confirming their relationship, the couple had been leaving a few clues along the way.

In June 2025, Parker revealed during an interview with The Sunday Times that she was dating someone, though she kept his identity private. Cosmopolitan reported that the actress bashfully described her mystery boyfriend as “sweet,” while social media posts fueled speculation that Hoffman could be the man in question.

Those rumors grew when the pair attended the Toronto International Film Festival together in September 2025 to promote “Poetic License.”

Per People, Parker and Hoffman were photographed looking cozy and shared a playful moment while spending time with puppies. As Parker cuddled one of the pups, Hoffman jokingly told her, “No, we’re not getting a dog.”

One month later, the costars attended the Christian Dior show during Paris Fashion Week. According to Cosmopolitan, their outing generated even more dating chatter after Hoffman was spotted placing his hand on Parker’s back as they left together.

Now, fans finally have their answer.

The Young Stars Have a Surprising Hollywood Family Connection

Their famous last names may be familiar, but Hoffman and Parker have already been building acting careers of their own.

Parker made her feature film debut in Tim Burton’s 2019 live-action “Dumbo,” later appeared in HBO’s “The Last of Us” and recently starred as Astrid in the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon.”

Hoffman broke out in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2021 film “Licorice Pizza” before appearing in “Saturday Night” and starring in “The Long Walk.” He currently stars opposite Olivia Wilde in “I Want Your Sex.”

In a fun Hollywood coincidence, their famous parents also share a movie franchise connection. Newton starred opposite Tom Cruise in 2000’s “Mission: Impossible 2,” while Philip Seymour Hoffman played villain Owen Davian in 2006’s “Mission: Impossible III.” Though they never appeared in the same installment, both joined the blockbuster franchise years before their children became a couple.

Hoffman and Parker will soon appear together in “Poetic License,” the movie that brought them together. The comedy also stars Andrew Barth Feldman and Leslie Mann and hits theaters Oct. 16.

Hoffman has also spoken about following in his late father’s footsteps. In a recent GQ interview, he called Philip Seymour Hoffman his “favorite actor” and admitted he would have been nervous for his father to watch his performances.

After months of speculation, Hoffman is no longer keeping his romance with Parker a mystery.

“It was very sweet.”
