Dave Bautista is opening up about his impressive weight loss transformation, which he attributes to focusing on his diet as well as exercise.
Many of his characters have been based on his appearance, which has left him needing to put on weight, specifically pointing to the movie “Knock at the Cabin” in February 2023, where he revealed he gained “over 300 pounds” during a July 2024 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark (per PEOPLE).
“I’ve sacrificed a lot of muscle. But I’m okay with it, because I just feel more comfortable,” he said on Live with Kelly and Mark.
Dave Bautista Reveals His Weight Loss Was Due To Dieting & Jiu-Jitsu Training
On the show, Bautista revealed that he has lost 75 pounds, detailing that it was due to dieting as well as his taking up jiu-jitsu.
“I was struggling to lose the weight, so I brought a trainer — my buddy Jason Manly — over to Budapest with me while I was filming Dune,” he continued during his appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark (per PEOPLE). “We did nothing but grapple for hours, and I started shedding the weight. I figured I’d stick with it and get my brown belt.”
He also spoke with the Today show in September 2024, explaining how he turned to intermittent fasting.
“For me, it’s like nothing,” Bautista said (per PEOPLE). “I’m just not eating much. And I’m not starving or anything.”
Dave Bautista Starring Alongside Jason Momoa In ‘The Wrecking Crew’
Bautista is starring alongside Jason Momoa in Prime Video’s new action flick “The Wrecking Crew,” where the two play estranged half-brothers. The movie is set in Hawai’i, where Bautista plays a U.S. Navy SEAL commander while Momoa portrays a police detective in Oklahoma.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Momoa opened up about his relationship with Bautista.
“I consider him like an older brother,” Momoa said. “And I know I could call him at any moment for anything I need, and he’d be there [at the] drop of a hat without a doubt for me and my family. So that’s where I’m at with him.”
